Description:

The Treasury department is responsible for the management of BNY Mellon's balance sheet. It assumes a variety of risks in its activities to generate net interest income, largely through the monetization of the firm's deposit base through its investment portfolio of fixed income securities. Additionally, the Treasury drives the allocation of the Firm's financial resources across the company, balancing capital and liquidity needs and demands and works to create the appropriate financial incentives for the businesses using these scarce resources. BNY also operates in a number of countries which exposes it to the impact of changes in FX rates on earnings and capital.

The Treasury Risk function is the second line of defense responsible for the oversight of liquidity risk, interest rate risk, investment portfolio mark-to-market risk, and capital risk at BNY Mellon.

The team monitors our Treasury's deployment of the firm's financial resources to businesses across the company, ensuring that risks and trade-offs are appropriately identified, measured, controlled, and reported. Treasury Risk works very actively with other Risk & Compliance functions impacted by Treasury including Market Risk, Credit Risk, and Model Risk to understand a holistic risk profile of the business' risk taking. As BNY Mellon is a Global Systemically Important Bank (GSIB), the regulatory requirements and expectations for the Treasury and Treasury Risk are at the highest standard in the country.

The Senior Specialist is an individual contributor working within Treasury Risk team and will be responsible for a variety of activities including:
  • Work with lines of business finance departments and Stress Testing teams across businesses, functions, and products, to get an in depth understanding of current Stress Testing processes, practices, and methodologies
  • Identify key components of earnings and capital which are impacted in a Stress Scenario and identify key drivers which have the largest impact
  • Based on this understanding, develop a simplified stress testing approach which can be used for review & challenge and to do ad-hoc stress tests in a relatively short period of time
  • Work with Risk Stress Testing team to run ad-hoc scenarios to assess impact, summarize results and present to senior management
  • Provide analytical and business support review & challenge of regulatory Comprehensive Capital Analysis Review (CCAR)/DFAST as necessary
  • Leverage stress tests to identify risks to earnings and capital not covered in the current risk framework, such as FX CTA and FX Remeasurement, and develop risk metrics to measure and monitor these risks
  • Identify key macro trends and engage closely Enterprise Scenario teams to develop ad hoc scenarios for Rapid Stress Testing
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of total work experience in the banking or financial services industries is required. 4-7 years of experience in market or liquidity risk preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Very strong analytical skills to analyze complex processes and create a simpler and faster approach which balances accuracy and timeliness.
  • Familiarity with software tools like Python, R, EXCEL VBA will be a plus
  • Ability to work in unstructured environment, develop and implement risk frameworks and processes from scratch.
  • Background in math, statistics, finance, accounting, economics, risk management, operations research, engineering, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • CFA/FRM certification is a plus
BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $100,000 and $150,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
