Real Estate Fund Accounting
Commercial Real Estate Fund Accounting Groups are specialized teams within the Alternative Investment Services Division of Bank of New York Mellon focused on providing fund administration services to our Commercial Real Estate Private Equity Fund clients.
Major responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and review of financial statements and data submissions to various industries
- Provides input into methodologies and reviews complex work done by more junior team members.
- Provides guidance and reviews work related to cash and asset reconciliations relating to accounts.
- Constructing and/or leading various training classes - such as accounting for complex deal structures, record keeping within certain systems, and/or the rolling out of new or changes to existing processes.
- Performs highly complex Fund/Client Accounting responsibilities in the areas of driving Service Improvement plans, targeting efficiencies, enhancing processes and specialist review functions.
- Regularly interacts with clients in answering questions and resolving multifaceted issues regarding fund reports and accounting processes.
- Evaluates GAAP and/or IFRS rules to determine impact of new regulations on BNY Mellon fund accounting practices.
- Assists in various audits with internal and external auditors.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7-10 years of financial statement preparation and review experience
- 7-10 years of real estate fund accounting experience.
- Audit experience
- Advanced Excel experience
- Strong leadership and development skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced organization with tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and partnering skills.
- REIT experience, Yardi and/or MRI system experience
- Client facing experience
- CPA preferred
- Client facing experience
- Working knowledge of joint venture waterfalls and partnership structures

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $96,000 and $216,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
