Bloomberg LP

Bloomberg Economics - GeoEconomics - Country Risk Analyst

Washington, DC

With close to 50 economists and 200 economics and government reporters worldwide, Bloomberg has an outstanding capacity to explain where the global economy and geo-politics are now, where they might be heading, and the ways in which the forces interact.

Bloomberg Economics already offers a comprehensive macroeconomic research service for Terminal subscribers. That includes detailed forecasts, supported by thorough and original thematic research.

As a next step, we are adding geoeconomics research, aiming for global coverage of key regions and issues from the Taiwan Strait to the Middle East to Latin America. The goal is to offer Bloomberg clients a deeper insight into the themes that drive economics, markets, and policy.

We are seeking an expert on country risk analysis to join our growing team.

THE ROLE:

The successful candidate will work with Bloomberg's chief geoeconomics analyst and other members of the Bloomberg Economics team on developing a systematic approach to gauging geoeconomic risk for individual countries.
Core responsibilities include taking the lead in building data sets and models that provide a more systematic way of understanding countries' geoeconomic risk exposure.
We'll measure success by the breadth and depth of our analysis on this growing area of focus for Bloomberg clients and the development of a structure for producing geoeconomic risk scores across a broad set of countries.

WE'LL TRUST YOU TO:

  • Take the lead in building out our country geoeconomic risk model.
  • Develop and execute your own ideas for research projects, in addition to supporting collaborative projects.
  • In line with experience, represent the team at client events, on Bloomberg TV and radio, and more broadly.
  • From time to time, work with Bloomberg's economic and government reporters on joint projects.

YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE:

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience and demonstrated expertise in country risk modeling.
  • A degree in economics, political science, international relations, regional studies or a related field. A graduate degree would be a plus.
  • Strong quantitative, writing, communication and teamwork skills.
  • English proficiency.
  • Energy and the initiative to provide a consistent flow of original, high-quality analysis and to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

WE'D LOVE TO SEE:

  • Experience generating content across a variety of formats, ranging from rapid turnaround responses to events to longer-term collaborative research.
  • Additional expertise in key geo-strategic regions, political science, or economics a plus.
  • Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know what the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at: https://www.bloomberg.com/company/careers/working-here/news-and-research/?tactic-page=588594
