About This Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow willing to help drive the development of therapeutics for neuromuscular disorders. The Research Fellow role at Biogen is an 18-month position designed to provide a unique opportunity for scientists to gain exposure to drug discovery and train in an industry research setting. The fellow will be embedded into the Neuromuscular Research group, a team with significant expertise in human biology, in vitro and in vivo modeling, biological data interpretation, and generating hypothesis for new drug targets.

The research fellow will be responsible for leading exploratory projects focused on muscle enhancement, including establishing both in vitro and in vivo assays, screening small-molecule inhibitors, and evaluating the efficacy of lead compounds in mouse models. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for developing strategies to assess new drug candidates, as well as performing in vitro and in vivo studies that will help advance drug programs. The candidate should be able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects to ensure timely support. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, along with scientific thinking and problem-solving skills.

What You'll Do

  • Work with team to plan, design and execute experiments that directly contribute to novel drug discovery
  • Set up and perform cell-based assays to establish proof-of-concept of prospective targets and their appropriateness for use in novel therapeutic programs.
  • Design and perform in vivo studies for additional target validation.
  • Perform downstream molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to, RNA/protein isolation, qPCR, ddPCR, western blots, MSD assays, etc.
  • Present findings and share learnings with team members and research community at Biogen
  • Appropriately record experimental procedures and findings using ELN documentation

Who You Are

You are person that is passionate about drug discovery and development related to neuromuscular disorders. You love working in a fast-paced environment, learning new laboratory techniques and working through collaboration.

Required Skills

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, or related field
  • 3+ years experience in a laboratory setting working with molecular biology techniques (RNA/protein isolation, qPCR, Western Blots)
  • 3+ years experience working with in vitro models (i.e. mammalian cells and iPSC cell lines)
  • 3+ years designing, implementing, performing in vivo studies using mouse models
  • Capable of working in a team environment, as well as independently when required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong records of scientific publications
  • Experience in accurately following, recording and documenting experimental procedures

Preferred Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of muscle biology and related diseases is a plus

Job Level: Professional

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: -$110,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
