About this role
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) plays a critical role in our mission by serving as a scientific expert and trusted partner to the medical community. This field-based, customer-facing role focuses on building and nurturing relationships with Key Medical Experts (KMEs), Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), and Health Care Organizations (HCOs) to advance understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and Biogen’s innovative therapies.
With approximately 50–70% travel, the MSL AD is responsible for providing timely, accurate, and balanced scientific information, supporting educational initiatives, and engaging in meaningful knowledge exchange. The MSL AD will facilitate scientific dialogue through advisory boards, educational forums, and ecosystem readiness efforts — from diagnostic access to upskilling stakeholders on Alzheimer’s disease and Biogen’s clinical data.

By establishing long-term strategic relationships with specialists, academic institutions, and medical societies, the MSL AD will ensure the medical community is well-informed and prepared to deliver impactful care in the evolving AD landscape. His/her insights will also serve as a vital bridge to internal teams, informing strategy and enhancing our collective understanding of the field.
What You'll Do
- Key Medical Expert (KME) and Healthcare Practitioner (HCP) Engagement:
- Identify KMEs/HCPs in AD and work in collaboration with respective commercial counterparts in engaging KOLs from a medical perspective
- Develop, maintain and implement KME/HCP engagement plans to build and maintain strong scientific relationships, such that Biogen is recognised as an industry partner of choice
- Plan KME/HCP visits and utilise the CRM database to record KME/HCP interactions
- Provide current, accurate and balanced scientific education to KMEs/HCPs and facilitate data discussions in relevant therapeutic areas
- Provide scientific presentations to individual physicians or groups of physicians, e.g. scientific seminars, round table meetings, journal clubs etc.
- Source and brief international and local speakers for national and regional meetings according to internal processes
- Work with various healthcare system to ensure readiness of institutes to diagnose and manage Alzheimer’s Disease
- Collaborate with healthcare systems and various institutes to ensure complete awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, and work closely with said institutes to establish understanding of referral of early alzheimers disease patients.
- Collaborate with third parties to ensure diagnostics are fully available for health care professionals to allow for diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease patients within biogen’s internal processes and accepted compliance guidelines.
- Reactively explore & facilitate clinician-driven ideas for Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs) and Sponsored Research Agreements (SRAs)
- Act as a liaison between investigators and Biogen ensuring regular communication regarding the progress of IIT & SRA proposals.
Internal Collaboration:
- Work with relevant commercial counterparts to address specific regional needs from a medical perspective, in alignment with both medical and commercial brand plans
- Record all healthcare professional (HCP) interactions and track MSL activity in the Veeva CRM database
- Participate in respective integrated brand team meetings, to provide in-field medical updates, trends, insights and competitor intelligence
- Contribute to in-field medical training of Area Business Managers (ABMs) and be available as a medical resource for the Sales team, to support educational events and presentations
- Support the Medical Manager AD with the coordination of advisory board meetings/steering committees, including speaker briefings
- Collaborate with relevant medical and commercial team/s to develop strategy and execute tactics on the communication of complex scientific information to relevant KMEs/HCPs
- Collaborate with Global Clinical Operations (GCO) and the Medical Manager AD with respect to clinical trial execution, eg: Site identification, Site Initiation visits etc.
- Collaborate with Medical Manager AD & the Medical Head to drive approval and set-up of appropriate IITs/SRAs
- Regularly (at least monthly) liaise with other medical and commercial teams to ensure consistency and alignment in strategy/tactics
- Adhere to the agreed Biogen-Eisai alliance reporting and review processes
- Regularly update site readiness tools, to ensure an updated and full picture of ready sites across the gulf countries.
Scientific Data Knowledge and Communication:
- Collaborate with the Medical Manager AD to generate high quality approved medical and scientific presentations aligned to medical strategy
- Keep abreast of relevant medical literature. Review Biogen literature alerts and work with Product Managers and other matrix functions responsible for education of ABMs on relevant literature alerts
- Discuss, analyze and educate on appropriate medical/scientific publications and clinical study findings, in collaboration with Medical Manager AD
- On request, attend national and international conferences and provide a medical summary of these conferences to internal stakeholders
- Provide scientific presentations to individual physicians or groups of physicians, e.g. scientific seminars, round table meetings and journal clubs etc.
Compliance:
- Ensure speaker briefings, contracts and slide review processes adhere to all internal SOPs and external rules where appropriate
- Maintain compliance within Biogen and local external frameworks and codes of conduct
- Maintain 100% training compliance on all allocated courses and internal SOPs.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- University degree in Science, Pharmacy, or Medicine
- Excellent communication/coordination/
- interpersonal skills
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in the Pharma industry (Medical Affairs) or clinical/scientific setting
Preferred Skills
- International experience (local/regional), especially in desired
- Preferred experience in the field of neurology, immunology
- Preferred understanding of drug development through clinical research
- Preferred knowledge and understanding of local health care systems and regulations
