Category Manager for Lab Equipment & Supplies
About This Role
As the Category Manager for Lab Equipment & Supplies, you will play a pivotal role in managing Biogen's expenditure in this crucial segment. You will develop and implement a comprehensive category strategy, ensuring alignment with Biogen's priorities and needs. By taking ownership of this category, you will aggregate the voice of internal customers, collaborate with key suppliers, and stay informed on industry trends and new technologies. Your role is integral to identifying and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives alongside stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Director of Procurement for Scientific Products & Services, you will ensure that Biogen stays ahead in the ever-evolving landscape of lab equipment and supplies.
What You'll Do
- Partner with business stakeholders to build strong relationships, facilitating the realization of business objectives and savings.
- Lead cross-functional teams through RFI and RFP sourcing initiatives aligned with category strategy, generating optimal value for Biogen.
- Utilize spend data analytics, market research, and cost modeling to identify high-value opportunities.
- Develop and implement mid to long-term sourcing, negotiating, and contracting strategies to achieve category goals. And enhance category strategies year over year by monitoring market trends and leading practices.
- Ensure efficiency through appropriate use of buying channels, catalogs, and RFx events, championing ongoing continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders across Research and Manufacturing to problem-solve and communicate effectively to a broad stakeholder group.

Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in procurement or related experience, with a focus on strategic category management and knowledge of lab equipment, maintenance, and consumables.
- Experience in negotiating commercial terms for capital equipment purchases.
- Understanding of catalogs, strategies for procuring lab reagents and consumables, and managing tail spend.
- Proficiency in manipulating large data sets in Excel using pivot tables and v-lookups.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to manage change and ambiguity effectively.
- Excellent project management skills, capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong communication skills, capable of tailoring messages to diverse audiences.
Education:
- University degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Preferred Skills:
- Science background with some experience working in a lab.
- Proven ability to build consensus and motivate team members across multiple projects.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $106,000.00-$142,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
