About This Role

The Direct Materials Category Manager will have the opportunity to transform, improve and innovate key categories impacting the operational footprint of Biogen. This Category Manager will ensure the needs of the business are met by leading category management, sourcing strategies, and sourcing process from defining business needs, knowledge of supply marketplace, execute RFx events, lead contract negotiations, supply risk management, and supplier relationship management.  The successful candidate must be able to drive significant value to the business.  This role will report into the Associate Director, Global Strategic Sourcing, Direct Materials.

•    Execute and lead projects in line with Category and Sourcing strategies including negotiations and project/implementation plans. Supporting the creation of Sourcing and Category strategies by obtaining business requirements from stakeholders and conducting market assessments. Supplier relationship management. This includes development and tracking of key performance indicators for the category of spend, facilitating strategic supplier-company business meetings that drive adherence to contractual agreements, continuous improvement and innovation.
•    Renewing contracts, updating pricing annually, refreshing internal business requirement/ metrics, maintaining supplier capabilities database, scanning the marketplace for changes and managing known or potential business impacts and developing risk mitigation plans, Category maintenance.  This includes contract life-cycle management (e.g., renewing expiring contracts, updating pricing annually, etc.), category databases (e.g., refreshing internal business requirement/impact metrics, supplier capabilities database, etc.), scanning the marketplace for changes and managing any known or potential business impact and developing risk mitigation plans.
•    Supplier relationship management.  This includes development of key performance indicators for the category of spend and supporting key operational due diligence efforts (eg, being a SME during quality audits, interpretation of contracts and obligations therein, etc.)
•    Continuous Improvement.  This includes both department/category business process improvements (e.g., enhancements to the sourcing process, development or revision of key sourcing procedures, documenting processes, etc.) and personal development.
 

Qualifications

Who You Are

 You are an experienced procurement professional with expertise in GMP materials sourcing, contracts and negotiations.   You enjoy collaborating with diverse subject-matter experts to develop process improvements and evolve category strategies. You excel in presenting and interacting with internal senior level management and suppliers.

•    Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in the following topics.
o    Experience negotiating supplier agreements
o    Track record of building comprehensive category and sourcing strategies that addresses stakeholder needs and market offerings 
o    Demonstrated ability to support multiple, sourcing categories in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of technical business functions and GxPs is preferred.  

•    Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
•    Ability to influence project stakeholders 
•    Experienced with project management with multidisciplinary stakeholders  
•    Strong experience working in a matrix environment with indirect reporting structures.
•    Ability to develop, enhance and execute on processes and procedures
•    Supplier relationship management and business reviews experience 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences or a related field.

The base salary range for this position is $106,000 - $135,000. Base salary offered is determined though an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
