The Manager, Calibration and Equipment Preventative Maintenance is responsible for managing the technical and metrological support for the BDB San Diego site (including Operations and R&D). Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business support, technical, or production staff in an assigned area. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion as a part of the overall departmental strategy. Coordinates work activities with other supervisors. Applies expertise to solve standard and non-standard problems within own area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and supports the procurement, installation, calibration, and maintenance of manufacturing and laboratory equipment and automation, and closely cooperates with users on continuous improvement projects related to instrumentation.
  • Supervises the development and review of internal calibration and maintenance processes and procedures - and ensures that metrology programs and devices comply with domestic and international regulations.
  • Establishes metrics for managing and controlling the performance of the area, prepare and present reports and performance for upper management.
  • Monitors the calibration status and technical condition instruments in order to ensure continuous production.
  • Checks and approves electronic and paper-based documentation.
  • Monitors BMS system with Facilities and analyzes trends.
  • Works with vendors to procure new instruments and when maintenance or calibration is performed by the OEM.
  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities (safety, quality, efficiency, cost savings) and manages implementation projects.
  • Provides technical leadership for the calibration technicians for complex engineering problems or projects
  • Prepares and owns financial budget for the department
  • Works together and collaborates with their internal customers like production team leaders and individual users of instruments.Resource planning, participation in hiring
  • Operational management of technicians' work, setting priorities scheduling work for the team.
  • People management including coaching, training, goal setting and performance management of the team/direct reports.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge of metrology (MSA) and calibration processes including understanding related domestic and international regulations is a must.
  • Minimum 2 years people leadership experience.
  • Manages computer and network systems at a sophisticated level.
  • Manages financial resources within own area.
  • Ability to learn and understand new technologies.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to accurately document and maintain records of completed and planned activities.
  • Able to install, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Able to manage priorities and escalate as necessary.
  • Able to apply expertise to improve effectiveness and provide technical guidance to employees in own area.
  • Able to develop processes and procedures to implement functional strategies.
  • Able to work collaboratively across diverse functional teams.
  • Knowledge of BMRAM system, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001.
