Position Overview


Autodesk is seeking a Software Development Manager to join our Platform Services & Emerging Technologies organization.

The Visualization Services team transforms raw, multi-gigabyte design files into ultra-efficient, streaming-ready assets for Autodesk's desktop, web, and mobile viewers. We're driving the adoption of next-generation streaming formats that accelerate rendering, cut bandwidth, and lower cloud costs.

As Software Development Manager, you'll lead our hybrid Toronto-Montreal C++ team that powers this visualization engine. You will hire and develop talent, plan and run sprints, and partner with product manager, and client-rendering teams to ship new features, resolve escalations, and eliminate performance bottlenecks through innovative approaches. Acting as the bridge between business goals and engineering execution, you'll foster an open culture, establish best practices, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, customer-focused solutions. This role reports to the Senior Software Development Manager in Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers to build a top-performing C++ team.
  • Accountable for results and initiatives for the teams. Plan and manage the successful completion of projects to fulfill goals. Work with the team to break down complex requirements into executable work. Help the team to identify, solve and/or escalate risks, dependencies and roadblocks
  • Lead the team in supporting customers, resolving incidents quickly, and instilling a customer-centric mindset.
  • Champion resiliency, performance, scalability, and reliability, driving service-excellence initiatives.
  • Keep the team's work aligned with organizational goals and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and career development, up-skilling developers to meet business and personal growth objectives.
  • Develop Autodesk culture values in the teams. Enhance engineering efficiency by observing the team, identifying opportunities, and drive continual process improvement.
  • Guide the team through ambiguity and change, adapting plans as priorities evolve.
  • Manage team's performance to ensure successful project completion. Inspire, motivate and coach team members to achieve maximum productivity, creativity and efficiency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years designing and developing cloud or server applications and services.
  • 5+ years of professional C++ development on large codebases and 3+ years of experience leading development, teams managing team members, from Junior to Principal engineers, from Developers to QAs
  • Deep knowledge of the software development lifecycle, CI/CD, and engineering best practices.
  • Expertise with modern C++ (C++17 or later), multi-threading, and performance optimization
  • Proven record of delivering complex software projects with multiple dependencies in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing complex software projects with multiple dependencies
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, onboard, and grow high-performing teams and to resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Experience managing business and technical scope changes across all phases of the development cycle.
  • Willingness to collaborate across time zones, including occasional work outside normal hours.

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location.
