Description

As a Lead Trust & Safety Intelligence Engineer on the Services Data Science & Analytics team, you will operate at the critical intersection of data science and legal analysis. You will work with massive internet-scale data across numerous product and customer touch-points, undertaking in-depth quantitative analysis, and distilling data into actionable and intuitive findings to drive informed decisions within legal and regulatory contexts. A great fit for this role can communicate and collaborate across many different teams, has an agile approach to solving challenging problems quickly, and stresses the details. We are looking for you to collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, and Trust & Safety teams in a data advisory capacity. This involves deeply understanding the cases and RFIs being assessed, determining what data is required, making recommendations on responses, and then compiling the data for production accordingly. Often you will closely partner with our data science & analytics peers on metrics, datasets, and expanding the automation around legal and regulatory initiatives. Your work may involve analyzing patterns of policy violations, user behavior risks, content moderation effectiveness, or fraud prevention data to inform strategic decisions. Extensive collaboration with Legal, Compliance, Competition, Law Enforcement, Trust & Safety, as well as Product, Business, Engineering, and Marketing teams is vital to our success. In this role, you will iterate with these teams on key cases, influence how our Services data is structured and shared, and be responsible for the accuracy and quality of the advisory and productions. Over time, you will establish and socialize a comprehensive roadmap to communicate and manage legal stakeholder expectations while enabling org-wide transparency on progress. This role will require extensive experience taking complex, multifaceted legal projects from initial inquiry to data production. Ideally, you have a curious mindset with the ability to condense complex concepts and analysis into clear and concise takeaways that drive action. We're looking for someone known for effectively bridging analytics and business/legal teams, with an ability to masterfully speak the language of both.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of combined experience demonstrating expertise in both advanced data analysis/business intelligence roles and legal analysis/advisory roles. This includes significant tenure working with regulatory compliance, legal operations, policy analysis, user safety, fraud prevention, data analysis/operations, or similar legal-centric functions, where data was a core component of the analysis or advisory.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and proven experience querying, manipulating, and analyzing internet-scale data structures and very large datasets specifically to address complex legal, compliance, user safety, or regulatory questions.
  • Demonstrated experience with data engineering tools and concepts, data pipeline development, data model design, and aggregation strategies, in support of legal/compliance reporting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and advisory skills, with the proven ability to translate complex data insights and intricate legal concepts for diverse audiences, including legal counsel, executive leadership, and technical teams.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects with tight deadlines and executive visibility.
  • BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience applying data analytics and business intelligence within a legal or compliance department, with a focus on areas such as regulatory reporting, competition analysis, intellectual property, privacy, consumer protection, litigation support, trust & safety operations, and policy enforcement.
  • Experience in a fast-paced technology company, digital subscription business, or large-scale e-commerce platform, navigating complex data ecosystems and evolving regulatory landscapes.
  • Advanced proficiency with Python, R, or similar languages, and experience with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark) for complex data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning applications in a legal context.
  • MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, Economics or a related field.
  • A Law Degree (JD/LL.B) or paralegal certification, combined with a relevant analytical degree.
  • Familiarity with legal research databases and tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and experience integrating data from these sources for analytical purposes.
