Description

APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Combine artistic talent with research on product use and materials to create the most functional and appealing product design. Collaborating with multi-functional teams, including engineering, human factors, manufacturing, and marketing to bring new products to life, including iPhone, Mac computers, wearables, accessories, and the product packaging. Sketch alongside other designers throughout the design process to communicate ideas of form, color and material exploration, and experience use cases to multi-functional teams to solve design problems. Build physical models, including simple paper models, quick prototypes using found and mixed media, 3D prints, and detailed 3D physical models using 2D drawing software and 3D CAD software. Perform on-site collaborative work in confidential labs to understand technical challenges and provide creative solutions, including reviewing 2D and 3D CAD and engineering prototypes, and under regulated lighting conditions to refine materials, color, and finish and provide direction to manufacturing specialists. Contribute to human factors research including product reliability testing, design of the testing protocol, user interviews and provide specific feedback on products. Define specification for the user experience and product reliability. International and Domestic Travel Required 10%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 - $264,200/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Design or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Using design iteration via sketching to explore ideas, solve design problems, and communicate with other design disciplines and cross-functional teams.
  • Illustrating design ideas using 2D drawing programs, including Adobe Creative Suites, to explain the design intent of scale, form, and orthographic projections.
  • Using 3D surfacing software, including Rhino, Solidworks, or Alias, to create basic 3D models to explore form and scale and prepare files as a starting point for detailed surface development and/or 3D physical models.
  • Demonstrating surface construction and surface quality experience to define precise product geometry in 3D CAD, including communicating design direction, in-depth collaboration, and iteration with CAD sculptors.
  • Reviewing 3D surface accuracy, color and finish on models, and samples and making comparison with design intent to provide solutions to refine them.
  • Using knowledge of materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes to create designs that are appropriate to material selection and possible to manufacture.
  • Demonstrating mechanical engineering experience with examples of detailed construction of product internals, externals, and mechanical product details. Consideration of real-world requirements to create designs that are robust, intuitive to use and aesthetically appealing.
  • Demonstrating materials and manufacturing process experience in areas such as additive manufacturing, CNC, injection molding, metal forming, etc. to allow for close collaboration with engineers in the engineering and manufacturing teams to establish processes that achieve design goals.
