We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Simulation Engineer to join our team. As a Simulation Engineer specializing in workflow automation and solver integration, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and deploying automated simulation workflows to model the performance, reliability, and durability of our products under various operating conditions. Your primary focus will be on leveraging FEA solvers (ANSYS, ANSA, abaqus etc ) and scripting to create robust, efficient, and scalable simulation processes. Experience with predictive modeling using machine learning is a plus. As a member of the a central cross-functional team, you will play a pivotal role in developing innovative solutions that directly impact the success of new iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Vision Pro and many more future products. Description
As a core member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, deployment and maintenance of automated workflows for model creation, meshing, simulation execution, results processing, and report generation using Python and FEA software APIs. Customize FEA software interfaces using scripting to enhance user experience and improve efficiency. Integrate FEA solvers (ANSYS, ANSA, Abaqus etc) with other engineering tools and databases to create seamless simulation pipelines. Develop and implement automated validation procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of simulation results. Optimize simulation workflows for performance and scalability, enabling efficient execution of large-scale simulations. Document and maintain simulation workflows, scripts, and APIs. Provide training and support to other engineers on the use of automated simulation workflows. Develop and validate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models for simulating a wide range of physical phenomena, including but not limited to: structural mechanics, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, and electromagnetic simulations. Select and implement appropriate material models to accurately represent the behavior of various materials used in our products. Conduct sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of design parameters and material properties on product performance. Analyze simulation results to identify potential failure modes, performance bottlenecks, and areas for design improvement. Collaborate with design engineers to develop and implement design modifications based on simulation results. Compare simulation results with physical test data to validate models and improve simulation accuracy. Explore the use of machine learning techniques to develop predictive models based on simulation data and test data. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in simulation techniques, material modeling, scripting languages, FEA software APIs, and relevant machine learning algorithms. Contribute to the development of new testing methodologies and standards. Present simulation results, workflow improvements, and recommendations to engineering teams and management. Participate in cross-functional teams to address product design and reliability challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field along with strong relevant industry experience.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and computational mechanics.
- Expertise in at least one FEA software package: ANSYS, ANSA, Abaqus and or related software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, including mechanics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and electromagnetics.
- Experience with a variety of material models.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysis. Strong preference for Python.
- Significant experience with FEA software APIs for model creation, customization, and workflow automation.
- Experience with integrating different software tools and databases.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process optimization.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with consumer electronics product development is a plus.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE) is a plus.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing simulation scripts and models is a plus.
- Experience with machine learning concepts and libraries is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact and collaborate with management, cross functional team members and external vendors to achieve project goals, and give positively to the engineering community
