AppFolio Investment Manager (https://www.appfolio.com/investment-manager) is a fast-growing internal startup of a successful, established SaaS company (https://www.appfolioinc.com/). We are going after the $7 trillion and growing private equity market, which largely still runs on spreadsheets and email. We are helping firms build and manage their businesses with purpose-built software that enables them to do everything from investor relations to fundraising to managing the elaborate capital stacks common in modern-day deals. Alongside our sister product, AppFolio Property Manager, we are composing a comprehensive suite of solutions to lead the Real Estate management software market. Your Impact
You will develop ownership of the technical architecture of Investment Manager and understand the fundamental workings of our product. Operating ahead of our domain-focused full-stack engineering teams, you will iterate upon the core controls and procedures of a mature and modern product. You will partner with all levels of leadership in our business to champion technical advancements, organizational change, and security and compliance initiatives. Collaborating with our sister product, AppFolio Property Manager, you will identify and coordinate robust teams to deliver integrated solutions for the entire Real Estate stack.
Qualifications
- Lead, coach, and support a highly effective team of ~10 passionate engineers to foster a high-performance, culture of excellence.
- Take a hands-on approach to the entire software development lifecycle: perform day-to-day project management to ensure successful, on-time releases; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the team’s delivery
- Take ownership of the compliance needs across our organization's development lifecycle to ensure adherence to industry standards, including SOC I & II
- Create a productive work environment, and keep the team focused and fulfilled
- Talk directly with customers to understand their challenges and get direct feedback on the features you're building, as well as partnering with sales
- Lead by example and publicly share your knowledge to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Promote and implement best practices that optimize the developer experience to ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality software

Must have
- 8+ years of experience working in software engineering teams
- Demonstrated track record of 4+ years successfully hiring, managing, coaching, and retaining world-class engineers.
- A relentless focus on leading and empowering teams of passionate engineers to foster a high-performance culture.
- The ability to thrive with high levels of personal initiative, autonomy, and responsibility
- Proficiency in communication and collaboration, with a resulting reputation for positive influence and accessibility
- Extensive experience in developing SaaS web applications and owning their means of production.
- Proficiency with most areas of our tech like Ruby, React, and SQL.
- Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through staging and production deployment.
- A reputation as a frontline technical representative capable of assisting sales initiatives and deals.
- Familiar with developing software solutions and implementing organizational processes compliant with SOC standards.
- Experience with modern (AWS, GCP, or Azure) cloud software tools and methodologies, such as infrastructure as code
- Experience with modern (CircleCI, Cypress, Playwright) CI/CD and automation frameworks
- Excellent collaboration skills to contribute cross-functionally and in a team setting
Nice to Have
- A passion for real estate, investing, or investment management
- Experience with AI/ML technologies
- Experience with proptech, fintech, or vertical SaaS
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary that we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $195,000 - $240,000.
The actual base salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s skills, education, experience, etc.
Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or bonuses that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
