We engage with policymakers, regulators, consumer advocates, and industry stakeholders to pursue effective policy solutions, enable innovative products, and build partnerships that enhance affordability, ease, and security across the home renting, buying, selling, and financing journeys.

About the role

We are looking for a seasoned government relations professional with direct experience in multi-state legislative and regulatory advocacy to join the GR team, based in New York City. You will own the Northeast region of the U.S., including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

You will develop and implement a state and local government relations and public affairs strategy to promote and defend the growth of the business in your region. You will work closely with and engage business leaders and internal teams on various government relations initiatives that impact the business. You will keep them informed and involve them in planning government relations and public affairs strategies. You will build and maintain relationships with government leaders, policymakers, regulators, consumer advocates, industry stakeholders, and other external parties within the region and target markets.

Our ideal candidate must have experience in state and local government relations, as well as direct legislative and regulatory advocacy, in the region. A qualified individual will be motivated to quickly learn about the real estate, rentals, housing finance, and insurance industries, as well as other issues critical to Zillow Group's business, which includes StreetEasy.

This role will handle several high-stakes projects simultaneously, so being organized will be key. We are looking for a self-motivated, versatile problem solver who can develop and execute government relations and public affairs strategies. Significant travel is required for this position (more than 50 percent).

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement a state and local government relations and public affairs strategy to help advance and defend Zillow's and StreetEasy's mission in the Northeast region.
  • Work collaboratively across Zillow's and StreetEasy's teams to pursue policy solutions, enable innovative products, and build partnerships to drive our mission.
  • Build and foster relationships with government leaders, policymakers, regulators, consumer advocates, industry stakeholders, and influencers within the region.
  • Engage with and direct the efforts of multiple outside contract lobbying and public affairs consultants.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $148,600.00 - $237,400.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience in government relations and direct advocacy in the northeast region. Experience in real estate, finance policy, or technology is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn new issues impacting the business, think strategically, and move fast to create a successful government relations and public affairs strategy to address them.
  • Acute attention to detail and high-level analytical skills, with the tenacity to adapt quickly and multitask.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of political dynamics and legislative processes with the skills to connect political realities and business objectives.
  • Adaptability to an environment of innovation, constant change, and company growth.
  • Efficient and great at communicating up, down, and across the company.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a consistent record of collaborating with a broad range of cross-functional teams.
