Manufacturing DFM Engineer [Electromechanical Assemblies]

We have an opening for a DFM Engineer - Manufacturing in our Gaithersburg, MD location.  Qualified candidates should be able to thrive in our vigorous company atmosphere and possess good communication skills.
 
This position will support the assembly & test of customer products and determine the best tooling, equipment, and other aids necessary to meet objectives.  Construct and implement procedures & workflows for product builds that support organizational quality, cost, and volume objectives.  Perform engineering and related technical assignments utilizing best manufacturing engineering practices and principles.

    • Analyze requirements and system design documentation towards the development of efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes.
    • Create, implement, modify, and monitor manufacturing procedures that accurately reflect essential methods.  Assist in writing standard operating procedures and related quality documents as needed to meet requirements.
    • Actively participate in the new product introduction process, providing input on manufacturing related processing issues in order to meet quality, cost, throughput, and manufacturability goals.
    • Develop layouts, workstations, and process flows necessary to produce products in a high quality, cost effective manner while meeting demand requirements.
    • Train manufacturing employees in the effective methods and processes to produce products.
    • Take an active role in providing cost analysis of various alternatives to issues or process improvements and help manage the implementation of improvement efforts.
    • Actively participate in the creation, implementation, and monitoring of statistical process control techniques, including control chart development and the identification of required support tools or equipment.  Identify out of control variances, investigate reasons, suggest solutions, implement, and follow-up to assure closure.
    • Assist both Manufacturing & customers with the diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution of performance issues as required, and drive them to resolution.
    • Create rework documentation as required. 
    • Be an advocate for getting high performance, robust designs incorporated into the products we assembly.
    • Responsible for executing Engineering Feasibility reviews of orders placed by customers (DFM Reviews) to ensure the part 3D models can be properly manufactured in the processes selected as well as ensuring all information on 2D customer drawings are captured and have been quoted correctly.
    • Support the needs of the company’s ERP system.
    • Provide effective communications to peers, manufacturing personnel, management, and customers on all relevant issues.
    • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.  

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred with minimum 2-4 years of experience and success in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
    • Knowledgeable & efficient in utilizing ERP & MES systems.
    • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability.
    • Demonstratable proficiency in several of the following disciplines: SPC, Cpk analysis, Line Balancing, FMEA, Gage R&R, Design of Experiments, Six Sigma, DFM/DFX.
    • Ability to thrive working in a fast paced and expanding environment.
    • Very strong organization, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skills
    • Strong communication skills.
    • SolidWorks experience or equivalent CAD Software experience required.  
    • PC literate in the use of MS Office suite.  Proficient in utilizing Excel
    • Experience with new product introduction cycles
    • Tooling and fixture design experience
