POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Data Scientist will be responsible for developing artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science (DS) solutions for UnitedHealth businesses, reporting to AI & data science leader within the Optum Tech. This candidate should come with passion for using artificial intelligence to help drive new generation of data and machine learning enabled services and products to impact healthcare. As a team member, the candidate will work with a highly talented and diverse team of data scientists specializing in deep learning, Generative AI, and classical machine learning. This candidate will have great opportunities to turn ambiguous business requirements into real products. The ideal candidate will be result-focused, a self-starter, customer-centric, team first, and has demonstrated success in building and deploying AI solutions that are with great business values.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use AI/ML technologies to innovate current Optum operations. The tasks of innovation include, but not limited to: Smart revenue management, Intelligent payment platform, medical chart processing, medical code generation, medical image processing, etc.
  • Work closely with business and operations to understand the business requirements. To be able convert ambiguous requirements to AI solutions.
  • Have strong implementation skills to the proposed solutions and work closely with engineering team to create product pipelines that are scalable and flexible.
  • Willing to work in an agile and fast-moving working environment.
  • Passion for learning and innovating at new AI technologies that can facilitate future projects


JOB Qualifications

  • Majored in Computer Science, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, bioinformatics or other technical fields with profound mathematical training. Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Great experience in understanding business problems and formulate AI solutions.
  • Fluency in one of the scripting languages, such as: Python, SQL, PySpark and others.
  • Experience of development model under one of cloud environments, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Familiar with both SQL and noSQL databases, ability to write efficient queries in SQL.
  • Expertise in NLU/NLP, image process, Generative AI, etc...
  • Ability to initiate and drive projects from start to completion with minimal guidance
  • Ability to communicate the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced on medical coding, medical chart reading, entity detection, and other reading comprehension using AI/NLP technologies
  • Have experience on big data processing in the areas of Revenue cycle management includes, but not limited to, risk management, payment accuracy, smart reconciliation, etc...
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to describe the logic and implications of a complex model to all types of partners (product managers, engineers, designers, senior executives)

Experience: 5-8 Years .

Expected annual pay for this role ranges from $60,000 to $135,000 . Based on the position, the role is also eligible for Wipro's standard benefits including a full range of medical and dental benefits options, disability insurance, paid time off (inclusive of sick leave), other paid and unpaid leave options.
