Position Summary



This is a new role to the Australian business and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and develop their experience across both a financial and commercial/management accounting whilst supporting the growth of the Australian partnership.

The role will work closely and will be supported by a senior finance person in Australia. In addition to being a part of our close-knit Finance team in Australia, this role will build connections across our global finance teams including our Manila, Tampa, and Asia Pacific teams.

Our Finance Team

The Global Finance team is led by the Firm's CFO, Steve Wrede, and is made up of approximately 280 team members around the world. To support the firm's profitable growth, our core functions include billing and collecting Firm invoices, statutory accounting for the Firm and for individual offices, creating and distributing management reports, processing payments to vendors or reimbursements to employees. Together, we work seamlessly across our network of offices and countries where we operate. Ours is a multicultural, diverse and supportive team, where everyone's contribution is welcome and where we share a mutual ambition to achieve our goals and take the Firm from strength to strength.

Our team's remit includes partner compensation and the maintenance of partner equity accounts; strategic procurement of vendor services; global tax strategies; inventory management, and finally analysis of the profitability of clients, matters and groups of timekeepers. We work with partners and with other business services groups to establish hourly billing rates as well as client-specific fee arrangements. Our Treasury team is responsible for global cash management, foreign currencies, and hedging.

In consultation with Firm leaders, we set annual global revenue and expense budgets across Regional Sections and offices, including legal and business service departments. The team continuously reviews expenditures throughout the year to ensure that the Firm's resources are being used efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting in annual budgeting and forecasting
  • Assisting in analysis of financial results including preperation of reports and presentations
  • Assisting in all tax matters including handling all tax payments, annual and monthly tax filings, and queries
  • Month end close and review
  • Cash flow monitoring
  • Assist in payroll processes including partner compensation
  • Maintenance of local statutory books for White & Case entity
  • Miscellaneous other external reporting
  • Trust accounting
  • Corporate card management
  • Assist in finance induction training for new starters
  • Ad-hoc projects, queries and analysis

Qualifications
    • 3- 5+ years experience in a financial accounting role
    • CPA or CA qualification
    • Professional services experience would be desirable
    • Knowledge of Australian accounting standards
    • Exposure or experience in tax filings including GST, FBT and income tax
    • Experience of 3E is desirable
    • Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel
    • Must be self-motivated, organised, accurate, with strong attention to detail and be able to work independently
    • Flexible and enthusiastic with the ability to manage own workload, priorities, and deadlines

    Location & Reporting
    • This is a permanent role based in Sydney or Melbourne with hybrid working from home
    • This role reports to the Finance Manager in Melbourne
