Principal Engineer
About this role:
Wells Fargo is looking for a dynamic Principal Engineer to join our fast-paced team. This role involves working on multiple critical initiatives to support Cybersecurity Engineering and Architecture (E&A). You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on a high-visibility cybersecurity function.
Key responsibilities include creating and performing maturity assessments of engineering tools and ensuring compliance with defined expectations (e.g., non-functional requirements such data controls designs and Tech standard adoptions). Additionally, you will design and lead training and upskilling initiatives, set strategies for gamification and hackathons related to Software Engineering, and establish software engineering team OKRs focused on skills and new innovations. This includes the adoption of standards such as OpenShift, Data Controls framework, etc.
Furthermore, role will be responsible for creating and implementing training curriculums for E&A Cyber functions and ensuring adherence through metrics and reporting. Requires coding/development of websites and data transformation logic.
Experience in establishing and managing communities of practice, coordinating learning initiatives with vendors, and facilitating both online and in-person workshops is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in leading war rooms, designing customized workshops, and other collaborative formats is also valuable.
The ideal candidate will have experience in software engineering, including coding practices, the SDLC framework, and an understanding of technical standards for application and vendor execution (e.g., Cloud strategies, AI strategies, standards in EPL, etc.). Additionally, they should possess knowledge of working with data to support the cyber engineering strategy and be proficient with desktop tools such as Excel, Confluence, and SharePoint. A broad knowledge of dashboarding tools like Power BI and/or Tableau is also essential. Knowledge of open-source machine learning and Generative AI tools is highly desirable.

- Experience in conducting maturity assessments of engineering tools and ensuring compliance with defined expectations (e.g., non-functional requirements).
- A strong background in establishing and managing communities of practice to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Proven ability to coordinate learning initiatives in partnership with external vendors.
- Expertise in facilitating both online and in-person workshops to support continuous learning.
- Experience leading war rooms, designing customized workshops, and driving collaborative problem-solving sessions. Knowledge and understanding of compiling and preparing executive summaries and presentations for management/senior leaders

- Experience leading large-scale change or complex initiatives
- Experience with creating and running communities of practice, organizing learning partnering with vendors, and conducting online and in-person workshops.
- Strategic leadership and execution of gamification programs and hackathons focused on software engineering.
- Ownership of setting and tracking software engineering team OKRs related to skills development and innovation, including AI adoption.
- Lead complex and unique initiatives to provide technological solutions with broad impact for cross functional businesses and technology teams
- Act as an advisory to senior leadership, with strategic business solutions to companywide technology initiatives
- Evaluate highly complex business problems and provide subject matter knowledge proficiency for technology initiatives
- Understand and ensure compliance and risk management requirements for supported area and work with other stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
- Make decisions regularly for highly complex and multifaceted situations requiring solid understanding of domain and technology applications, and which influence companywide technology solutions
- Utilize hands-on knowledge and experience with some or all analytical tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, and scripting languages such as Python, Unix scripting, Power Shell etc.
- Provide vision, direction, and expertise to senior leadership regarding transformation approaches and progress for all Cyber software engineering teams.
- Experience with risk metrics, KPIs, monitoring to thresholds, reporting, analytics, business process design, process modelling, and current and target operating models
- Proven ability to lead, engage, empower, and unify teams of both domestic and global resources.
- Record of driving innovative solutions from ideation through implementation while maintaining focus on detail, design, and continuous improvement to solve complex business needs
- Demonstrated ability to apply strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Thoughtful implementation of operational data to measure past, present, and forecasted performance and productivity
- Strong executive presence, facilitation skills, drive for results, attention to quality and detail, and excellent communications, interpersonal, and presentations skills across technical and non-technical groups
- Partner with engineering, database and other technical teams to accomplish E&A and cybersecurity's goals.
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 7+ years of Software Engineering and Business Systems Designing experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5+ years of information security experience in a senior security engineering role.
- 7+ years' experience in software development environments, methodologies, tools, and frameworks (e.g., Agile, Git, testing frameworks).
- Deep understanding of secure coding practices, threat modeling, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- 5+ years of experience leading and executing complex technology transformational programs across an enterprise.
- 3+ years of scripting and automation experience.
- 3+ years' experience with security technology product evaluation, proof of concepts and testing.
- Experience with GitHub, Ansible automation and orchestration (or similar tools including), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
- Experience with information security and risk management including policy and standards, information security assessment, and security best practices.
- Ability to define business and technology requirements and align to technology strategy & direction.
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, ISSAP, CCSP, CISM.
- Industry standards experience such as IETF, IEEE, ANSI, ASC X9, NIST.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong technical writing skills and presentation skills.
