Lead Systems Operations Engineer
About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Systems Operations Engineer with experience in systems operations, observability, and automation. The engineer will support the implementation and maintenance of alerting, alarming, and monitoring solutions for Branch systems, contributing to the adoption of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across the organization.
The Lead Systems Operations Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify operational gaps, improve system reliability, and enhance incident response processes. The role involves hands-on troubleshooting, supporting production environments, and helping reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR) through effective diagnostics and response coordination.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the engineer will work closely with peers and stakeholders to ensure system health and performance.
In this role, you will:
- Lead or participate in managing all installed systems and infrastructure within the Systems Operations functional area
- Contribute in increasing system efficiencies and lowering the human intervention time on related tasks
- Review and analyze moderately complex operational support systems, application software, and system management tools to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Work with vendors and other technical personnel for problem resolution
- Lead team to meet technical deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of technical process controls or standards
- Collaborate with vendors and other technical personnel to resolve technical issues and achieve highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

- 5+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5+ years of experience observability and monitoring tooling
- 5+ years in infrastructure (windows and Linux) support
- 5+ years proven success in toil reduction initiatives
- 4+ years in cloud application management
- 4+ years of experience in an SRE or DevOps role, preferably in a hybrid infrastructure & cloud environment
- 4+ years of Shell Scripting experience in one or more of the following: PowerShell, Bash, Korn Shell (ksh), Perl, or Python
- Focused on risk mitigation in Cash Vault and Check Processing environments
- Strong understanding of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model
- Ability to troubleshoot the network stack, operating system stack and middleware
- Deep understand of java applications including how to read a thread dump and use of java flight recorder
- Knowledge and understanding of AI capabilities
- Ability to quickly script for new alarms and execute according to company approved alerting tools
- Ability to dynamically engage and attend high impact production incidents and troubleshoot to resolution and provide immediate incident analysis both written and spoken.
- Has set up distributed tracing across an internet topology for full health check and with the ability to pinpoint problem source.
- Mentor the platform teams by training, documenting, certifying and building the teams skill set.
- Demonstrate knowledge/understanding of emerging technologies, industry trends, and outside perspectives, and communicate relevance to the organizations strategic and tactical goals
- Lead proof of concepts and prototyping
- Lead execution of critical/complex project deliverables.
- Strong communication with the ability to communicate on all levels of the organization
- Willingness to work on-site at stated location on the job opening
