About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Java Developer to join the Spread Technology team in Fixed Income, supporting asset classes such as Structured Products, Credit, and Municipal Bonds. This role is pivotal to the success of strategic initiatives Front Office Sales and Trading applications, and is designed for engineers who thrive in high-performance, front-to-back delivery environments.

You will lead the design and development of robust backend services, contributing to pricing, risk, and PnL workflows. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical leadership, deep domain knowledge in capital markets, and a passion for building scalable, resilient software solutions using modern technologies such as Java, Spring, Kafka, and Apache Ignite

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives on selected domains
  • Ensure systems are monitored to increase operational efficiency and managed to mitigate risk
  • Define opportunities to maximize resource utilization and improve processes while reducing cost
  • Architect and develop scalable, cloud-native backend applications using Java and Spring Framework
  • Implement messaging and stream processing using Apache Kafka.
  • Utilize Apache Ignite for in-memory computing and caching strategies.
  • Apply SOLID principles and backend engineering best practices across the codebase
  • Lead, design, develop, test and implement applications and system components, tools and utilities, models, simulation, and analytics to manage complex business functions using sophisticated technologies
  • Resolve coding, testing and escalated platform issues of a technically challenging nature
  • Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and maintainability through rigorous code reviews and testing practices
  • Promote DevOps culture and practices, including CI/CD automation and cloud deployment strategies
  • Lead team to ensure compliance and risk management requirements for supported area are met and work with other stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
  • Mentor less experienced software engineers
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Partner with production support and platform engineering teams effectively

  • 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience in high-performance programming using Java
  • 5+ years of experience with Spring Framework for backend development
  • 5+ years of experience with Apache Kafka for messaging and stream processing
  • 5+ years of experience with Apache Ignite for in-memory computing
  • 5+ years of experience with build tools such as Maven or Gradle
  • 5+ years of experience with code quality tools like SonarQube
  • 5+ years of experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana,
  • 5+ years of Capital Markets Fixed Income domain
Desired Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Bond Pricing, Bond Risk, Bond PnL, and Position Management
  • Understanding of Trade lifecycle, Position Management, and End of Day Marking
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical solutions to both technical and business stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment.
  • Strong delivery focus and ability to work in a fast-paced enterprise environment
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Tekton
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure setups
  • Experience using OpenShift / Kubernetes container platforms
  • Experience designing and delivering cloud-native, microservices-oriented solutions at enterprise scale in financial services or regulated sectors
  • Experience with test automation using tools such as Selenium
Job Expectations:
  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule. 3 days in office every week currently.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$159,000.00 - $305,000.00
