China Application Manager

Working as part of the commercial team, this individual will be responsible for managing the field-based, application-specific team to support business development and end-customer satisfaction, achieving short- and long-term business objectives. This team is responsible for customer training and application support of the TA Instrument product portfolio. This person will also be responsible for providing customers and internal personnel (Sales, Service, Agents) with product and technical support. The position requires the scientist to have a strong background in Chemistry and/or Materials Science applications as well as rheology and Thermal analysis. The position holder will also be responsible for representing the company at scientific meetings and trade shows. This position will require travel to customer sites in a defined geographical region.

Responsibilities
Manage a team of Applications Engineers regarding hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Lead the Application team in engaging with customers during competitive situations, developing new applications, and delivering exceptional sample testing to demonstrate product superiority and drive commercial success.
- Guide the Application team in translating complex product features into clear, customer-centric advantages that support the sales team in winning opportunities.
- Collaborate with the team of Account Managers in diagnosing customer requirements and designing analyses that showcase the superior capabilities of TA instruments product portfolio in line with the customers' goals.
- Work closely with Business partners, Field Sales, and Marketing operations to provide credible and impartial consultancy and technical support in a fast-paced pre- and post-sales environment and manage all processes associated with supporting tasks.
- Oversee the delivery and development of TA instruments technical training programs for customers and field sales engineers, including elaborated planning and preparation to ensure high-quality training content and appropriate processes.
- Effectively manage all demo equipment, including managing equipment to maximize the use of demo capital, and managing processes where existing instruments are sold as demo instruments and new units are ordered as replacements.
- Manage lab activities and processes, including logging samples, assigning responsibility, ensuring timely generation of data, issuing high-quality written reports if necessary, resolving resource issues, maintaining labs in a safe, organized, and effective manner, and providing appropriate metrics for managing processes.
- Provide other miscellaneous supports, such as content for applications articles and briefs, reviewing and generating marketing-related collateral, participating in and developing content for Sales/Service meetings, and supporting trade shows and other customer-focused events for TA instruments.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master's Degree in a scientific area such as Materials Science, Chemistry, or Biochemistry; PhD is preferred.
Experience:
- Over 10 years of experience in the Material Science Tools market applications; experience with thermal, rheology, microcalorimetry, or thermophysical technology is preferred.
- 3-5 years of management experience.
Complexity:The role requires balancing technical depth with commercial acumen. The manager must not only understand complex scientific concepts but also articulate them in ways that resonate with customers and sales teams. This dual competency is essential for driving market competitiveness.
Personal Contacts:The role involves frequent interaction with customers, sales, service, and marketing teams. The ability to build trust and communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders is crucial for aligning technical support with business objectives.
