Your New Role:
The Sr. Director, Engineering MST is a seasoned operational leader within WBD's Monetization & Studio Technology organization. This role is crucial in supporting M&ST leadership, overseeing engineering management and ensuring successful technology deliveries across the M&ST portfolio. Reporting to the SVP, the Sr. Director is part of the M&ST leadership team and manages multiple capability center based delivery leads. The Sr. Director optimizes operational processes, ensures successful and efficient deliveries, and leads effective interactions with M&ST's business co-located tower leads. This position requires a skilled technologist, strategic thinker, exceptional problem solver, and strong leader to drive WBD's technological growth and success
Your Role Accountabilities:
Technology Deliveries
- Oversee M&ST capability center engineering.
- Act as the capability center point of contact for major M&ST programs, supporting vertical tower leads and vendors with effective communication, documentation and implementations.
- Mitigate roadblocks and challenges to ensure smooth project execution, monitoring key delivery metrics and aligning with organizational expectations.
- Drive efficiency and reduce waste in capability center delivery operations, partnering with Portfolio and Solution Assurance to maintain governance frameworks for compliance and to develop contingency plans for risk management.
- Optimize delivery performance and align with organizational objectives, enhancing operational efficiency
- Drive cross-functional deliveries and ensure alignment with T&O technological goals, including application rationalization and tech debt reduction
Demand Management
- Collaborate with M&ST leadership to understand business priorities and translate them into actionable workstreams for capability center delivery leads.
- Oversee and prioritize incoming work demands across multiple delivery leads, ensuring alignment with resource capacity, deadlines, and organizational goals.
- Proactively identify potential bottlenecks or capacity constraints and implement strategies to address them, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery.
- Work directly with vendors as needed to address fluctuating demand.
- Develop and maintain a demand management framework that provides visibility into resource allocation and workload distribution.
- Regularly review project backlogs and adjust priorities based on changing business needs together with M&ST leadership collaboration and inputs
Issue Escalation and Resolution
- Act as the primary escalation point for capability center delivery leads when critical issues arise, providing guidance and support to facilitate timely resolution.
- Coordinate with business co-located M&ST leads to address escalated risks, dependencies, and challenges impacting delivery timelines or quality.
- Develop and implement an escalation framework to ensure efficient issue tracking, prioritization, and resolution.
- Work directly with vendors as needed to escalate and resolve issues.
- Ensure that root cause analyses are conducted for recurring issues and oversee the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Communicate resolution progress and outcomes to stakeholders, maintaining confidence in the delivery process.
M&ST Leadership Communication/Interaction Model
- Serve as the primary capability center liaison with Sr. M&ST leadership, ensuring consistent and transparent communication about delivery progress, team performance, and issues.
- Prepare and deliver regular status reports, dashboards, and presentations to provide visibility into capability center engineering operations and alignment with objectives.
- Actively participate in planning discussions, representing delivery capabilities and constraints to inform prioritization and decision-making
- Facilitate cross-team communication and alignment, bridging gaps between business facing and engineering teams to maintain a unified approach to delivery.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with M&ST leadership to enhance collaboration and trust in capability center operations
Team Leadership and Development
- Provide mentorship and guidance to delivery leads, supporting their professional growth and enhancing their leadership capabilities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within engineering leads, encouraging high standards of performance and continuous learning.
- Establish clear performance metrics and expectations for delivery leads, regularly reviewing and providing constructive feedback on their performance.
- Lead initiatives to upskill team members, ensuring they remain equipped to handle evolving technology and business demands.
- Promote a positive work environment that values diversity, inclusivity, and employee well-being.
Qualifications & Experiences
- 15+ years of proven experience in a leadership role within the Media or Technology sector with vision, credibility, leadership skills and executive presence
- Experience in media and entertainment technology capabilities preferred
- Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex, high-impact projects
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking, and analytical skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities, high ambiguity and risk
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with diverse teams and technology colleagues
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Skilled at cost estimates, ROI development, and prioritizing technology implementations
- In-depth knowledge of software development life cycle (Waterfall, Agile, DevOps)
- A passion for technology and a keen interest in staying up-to-date with the latest media industry and technology trends
- Proven leadership presence and ability to build partnerships and influence stakeholders
- Comfortable presenting to senior levels and communicating with technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent collaboration skills, able to work across diverse teams and organizations
- Experience managing vendors and vendor service agreements
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field preferred (e.g. Business Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data & Analytics), or equivalent workplace experience
