What you'll do...

We are seeking a talented and passionate Distinguished Architect to join our team, you will serve as a visionary hands-on leader, actively coding, setting the technical direction and architectural standards across multiple domains and business units. You will drive enterprise-wide technology strategy, influence senior stakeholders, and ensure that Walmart's solutions are innovative, scalable, secure, and aligned with long-term business goals.

What you'll do:

Marketplace Architecture & Technology Strategy

  • Define and champion architectural blueprints, standards, and best practices across the organization.
  • Set the vision for cross-domain and cross-platform integration, ensuring reusability, consistency, and future-readiness.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks, providing strategic recommendations for enterprise adoption.
  • Author technical position papers and thought leadership on architecture and technology trends.
  • Guide the selection and evolution of technology stacks for diverse business needs.

Technical Leadership & Innovation

  • Mentor and guide senior architects and engineering leaders on advanced architectural patterns, coding standards, and technology trends.
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex, enterprise-scale systems with a focus on performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Oversee the development and deployment of telemetry, automation, and CI/CD pipelines at scale.
  • Drive the adoption of secure coding practices and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Strategic Requirement Analysis & Solution Design

  • Lead enterprise-level requirement analysis, ensuring alignment with Walmart's strategic objectives.
  • Mediate and resolve conflicting requirements among business units and stakeholders.
  • Prioritize and shape the roadmap for enterprise solutions, focusing on innovation and business value.
  • Guide the creation of user stories and epics for complex, cross-functional initiatives.

Security & Compliance Architecture

  • Set the vision for secure software development, data protection, and compliance across all products and platforms.
  • Oversee vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and the implementation of robust security architecture.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., SOX, GDPR, PCI).

Stakeholder Influence & Executive Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, influencing technology investment and business strategy.
  • Lead enterprise-wide discussions, build consensus, and drive decision-making using data-driven insights.
  • Represent Walmart in external forums, industry groups, and technology communities.

Talent Development & Culture

  • Attract, develop, and retain top technical talent through mentorship, coaching, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous learning across the technology organization.
  • Model Walmart's values and ethical standards in all interactions.

Continuous Improvement & Digital Transformation

  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and digital transformation initiatives at scale.
  • Champion a growth mindset, encouraging experimentation, and support intelligent risk-taking.

What you'll bring:

  • Deep working knowledge of all aspects of Cloud native distributed system development: Azure/ GCP/ WCNP preferred
  • Polyglot working with Full stack, multi-platform, large scale low latency architectures, micro-services architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience mentoring software development engineers, leaders, architects, and leading engineering projects, guiding engineering teams on engineering excellence; solid system design; hands on coding experience.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional project development and in collaborating with other scrum teams, QA, Release Management, Program Management, and TechOps
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and scaling of software platforms for large user bases, focusing on modularity and extensibility.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00-$338,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
