The Systems Engineer will work to advance the development and execution by solving complex problems and taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. This role serves as a technical/functional specialist, works independently with/without guidance.

 

What are the responsibilities of Staff SW Engineer?

Operations + Infrastructure: Operations & Infrastructure builds, operates, and maintains best-in-class IT infrastructure services that are secure, scalable, and continuously available.

As a member of SW Engineering team you will help design, enhance, build and support applications using modern back end & front end technologies in an agile environment. You will be working with colleagues, who will help, support and challenge you every day. 

Essential Functions of Staff SW Engineer

  • Responsible for day-to-day support, security, maintenance and availability of Performance Monitoring Tools, based upon business requirements while adhering to tight operations, security and procedural models

  • Responsible for complex integrations, advanced maintenance, high availability, disaster recovery, use case development, customer support, training and documentation of our Tools environments.

  • Function as the APM resource on key infrastructure projects and initiatives

  • Conduct business and technical analysis, code reviews, unit testing, and produce technical documentation for new development, system enhancements, and production support.

  • Develop modifications and corrections to existing software, including debugging routines, and regularly check-in for continuous integration of systems and/or software applications.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, systems analysts, project managers, QA, and other developers, to implement business requirements using the latest tools and technology.

  • Participate in On-call support rotation

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • COTS APM Tool Ownership

    • Lead the deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of enterprise-grade APM tools including but not limited to Riverbed, ExtraHop, Catchpoint, and Dynatrace.

    • Define best practices for tool usage, integration, and data governance across environments.

    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Applications

  • Data Interpretation & Insights

    • Analyze data (network, application, user experience) to identify performance bottlenecks, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.

    • Translate complex monitoring data into actionable insights for engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.

    • Develop AI/ML models to develop Forecasting Model

  • Architecture & Integration

    • Architect scalable observability solutions that integrate COTS tools with internal systems, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native platforms.

    • Ensure seamless data flow and correlation across tools for end-to-end visibility.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with SRE, DevOps, Network, and Application teams to embed observability into the software delivery lifecycle.

    • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor for APM and performance engineering practices.

    • Provide training and support to end-users and stakeholders.

  • Automation & Operational Efficiency

    • Develop automation scripts and frameworks for tool deployment, alerting, and reporting using Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.

    • Drive alert hygiene, SLO/SLA tracking, and proactive incident detection.

  • Security, Compliance & Cost Optimization

    • Ensure monitoring solutions adhere to security, compliance, and data privacy standards.

    • Monitor tool usage and optimize licensing and infrastructure costs.

    • Stay up-to-date with the latest features, best practices, and industry trends.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working on performance monitoring, observability, or infrastructure engineering.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Riverbed, ExtraHop, Catchpoint, Dynatrace, and other APM tool like AppDynamics, New relic
• Knowledge of application architecture and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with cloud-based application performance monitoring
• Knowledge on LLM like OpenAI GPT-4-TURBO/O1-PREVIEW//GPT-4O-MNI
• Building and/or consuming REST APIs, including creating and parsing data in various formats and understanding best practices.
• Experience with code management systems (GIT or TFS).
• Knowledge of web application development with React/Angular/NodeJS.
• Working knowledge of IT infrastructure systems (compute/ network/ storage/ virtualization/etc.)
• Experience with scripting languages such as JavaScript, PowerShell, or Python.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with SQL Databases and data visualization using Tableau or PowerBI.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Soft skills
• Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to interact with management, technical subject matter experts, and business customers are essential in this role.
• Comfortable with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis.
