The Opportunity
The Sr Director Engineering role in the Visa Commercial Card Solutions team entails leading multiple development teams to enhance the lifecycle of applications deployed on the private cloud platform. The teams are comprised of full stack developers, tech leads and managers and directors who manage teams themselves. A successful candidate for this position will be able to have a positive impact on the experience of other product development teams within Visa.
Team Summary
The Visa Commercial Solutions global platform (VCS) team has overall responsibility for all aspects of platform strategy, product development, and management for commercial platforms. VCS serves clients engaged in providing payment products to small business, middle market, large corporate/multinational companies, and governments
The Work itself
- The work involves leading teams adhering to Visa leadership principles of leading courageously, obsessing about our customers, collaborating with other teams, and excelling in execution.
- The Visa Commercial Platform comprises of 100s of microservices, and micro frontend components designed to work together as a cohesive platform to enable our customers to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial payments: from ideation to launch. The primary language used in the backend is Java with Spring framework as the base framework. The front end is mostly built using Typescript and AngularJS. Other significant software frameworks leveraged are relational and no SQL database.
- This role is expected to collaborate closely with other partners in Operations and Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Data AI Platform, Visa Acceptance Platform Engineering teams. There will be significant integration with Commercial services, requiring close partnership with them.
Essential Functions
The Skills You Bring
- Lead multiple development teams to manage and enhance Visa Commercial Card Platform
- Bring in strong technical expertise to drive the architecture and high level design of different services
- Lead technical discussions and communicate regularly with senior leadership on technical issues, program status, and escalations
- Define and advocate a set of standard technologies and architectural patterns for solving complex technical problems, specifically in the cloud computing domain
- Champion SSDLC processes to deliver quality software on time using Gen AI improving productivity efficiency
- Act as a technical liaison between product, engineering teams, Cybersecurity and Operations
- Work closely with cross functional groups including internal stakeholders, Product Managers, Engineers, Architects and external customers and vendors to formalize roadmaps and priorities.
- Lead by example, demonstrating accountability, and by contributing to departmental procedures, best practices, and standards
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
Professional Experience
• Extensive experience in software engineering and architectural design for highly scalable and always-on distributed systems
• Proven expertise in the payments domain, with indepth knowledge of Commercial Card solutions and Payment Integrations.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and delivering complex projects from concept to deployment
• Proficiency in agile development methodologies and practices
Technical Skills
• Deep technical knowledge in cloud and hybrid cloud strategies
• Proficiency in leveraging generative AI to enhance development processes and resource efficiency
• Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Commercial Payment Services
• Hands on experience consuming and integrating Gen AI tools (OpenAI APIs, GitHub Copilot, among others)
• Experience building microservices, specifically with HTTP, REST, JSON, and XML
• Experience with Messaging systems like Kafka, IBM MQ
• Experience with relationship and NoSQL database
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
Leadership & Communication
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and lead cross functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholder as sclients, regional teams, architects, business, and products
• Ability to interface effectively with senior leadership, providing clear and concise updates on project vision and progress
Preferred Skills
• Experience with Visa (or other payment brands) products and services.
• Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in the payments industry.
