The Opportunity
In your role as Engineer you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customers by developing new features for our real-time platform which underpins our ARIC engine, integrating ARIC into customer deployments and building new modules to plug into our platform. You will champion great user experience, accessibility, and performance throughout the UI - ensuring that the UI-server component is reliable, stable, and secure.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating code patterns, architecture, and design for features to be built in an efficient, repeatable, and maintainable manner.
  • Build and maintain integration points with other components to expose outputs of the engine, and other parts of the system to the UI.
  • Work closely with the UI-client team to agree on the API for delivering content/functionality to the users.
  • Work/co-ordinate with other engineering teams to expose ARIC functionality through an intuitive user experience.
  • Deliver new features -  from specification, through development, QA and into final deployment.
  • Possess an awareness of how your work fits in with the team’s area of responsibility and goals.
  • Build defined features, investigating and fixing bugs, without supervision but with occasional support.
  • Perform code reviews.
  • Communicate progress regularly whilst identifying any blocking issues and escalating where required.
  • Maintain and build good knowledge of the team’s area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to and work on cross-functional features and bugs.
  • Provide input into future technology development.

This position is based in our Cambridge office, with 3 days per week in the office expected.

Qualifications

Require experience:

  • Ability to manage and prioritise your own workload.
  • Modern IDEs, source control and continuous integration systems.
  • Experience of designing and developing scalable distributed applications.
  • Knowledge of patterns and their trade-offs in a distributed environment.
  • Comfortable working with large codebases.
  • External API integration.
  • Code profiling and performance tuning.

Great to have:

  • Experience of relational and/or NoSQL databases for large databases.
  • Web services – HTTP API development.
  • Message queueing systems – RabbitMQ / ActiveMQ / Kafka.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and automation.
