Job Description

This position reports into the Payment Products Development Architecture and Consulting team. As a Lead Systems Architect, you provide architecture leadership to product development, test engineering and business partners on projects for Payment Products Development. You understand the business imperatives tied to these projects. You provide technology leadership and are the technical expert on projects, advise the release strategy and guide the delivery of projects to ensure alignment with business strategy for maintaining and enhancing Payment Products systems.

Responsibilities: 

Consult 

  • Collaborate with business partners to clarify requirements to enable development of technical solutions that span multiple systems within Payment Products Development 

  • Consult, as requested, on technology and payment processing topics 

  • Provide support and analysis for proposed initiatives, particularly as related to re-use, funding requirements and areas of risk. 

Architect 

  • Collaborate with impacted technology teams and provide architectural direction to translate functional and non-functional requirements into a create secure, flexible, cost effective and resilient architecture for tactical and strategic business initiatives. 

  • Create comprehensive target state architecture documentation for projects that consider all areas of system and application development within Payment Products Development 

  • Provide architectural guidance on critical project issues and escalate appropriately 

  • Review and approve project documents such as technical design, test plans and client documentation to ensure compliance with the published architectural approach 

  • Understands the cost of delivery and can effectively estimate project costs for small to medium sized projects 

  • Plan and complete proofs-of-concept to determine feasibility of target architectures. 

Expert 

  • Functional understanding of end-to-end payment processing, including processing outside of Payment Products Development 

  • Working knowledge of the payment industry and Visa’s technology and product portfolio 

  • Contribute to team position papers on technology and payment industry topics and trends.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and business direction and contribute to team discussions.  

  • Teach others within Payment Products Development through informal sessions such as brown bags and tech talks. 

  • Mentor and present to all levels of the organization related to Payment Products topics where there is demonstrated proficiency. 

Lead 

  • Provide leadership to project teams to ensure solutions are built consistently and accurately demonstrates leadership through presentations across Payment Products Development 

  • Participate in and support Standards and Governance procedures. 

  • Be known and respected broadly within Payment Products Development 

  • Model the Visa Leadership Principles in all interactions. 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Financial services and/or payments processing industry experience
  • Experience with architecting solutions for highly scalable, highly available systems
  • Knowledge of service oriented architecture and event driven architecture
  • Passion for innovation, new ideas, quick prototyping, hackathons etc.
  • Professional experience in ideation and incubation which has led to shipping products
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated and drive for excellence
  • Great time management and a passion for making commitments happen. Able to work independently, yet seamlessly integrate activities with other teams when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex organization where the ability to partner with diverse stakeholders is critical to brokering solutions that are in the best interest of Visa as a whole.
