  • Responsible for providing architecture guidance and technical expertise for the various platform components like database and middleware products in public cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams such as Infrastructure, Platform, Cyber Security, and Product Development, among others, to establish public and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Develop and maintain cloud architecture frameworks, including cloudnative solutions for the organization.
  • Design and implement cloud-based infrastructure solutions and platform components using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Design and provide guidance on database and middleware solutions, including selecting appropriate database and middleware technologies.
  • Evaluate and recommend whether to use managed services or build your own, taking into account factors such as cost, availability, scalability, and security.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop and implement cloud-based solutions to meet the organization’s business requirements.
  • Use cloud-native mindset to create greenfield solutions based on business goals, objectives, and requirements, while understanding integration with legacy solutions.
  • Define and document standard designs and processes and maintain documentation across all updates or changes.
  • Stay up to date with latest cloud technologies and best practices and suggest improvements to organization’s cloud deployment.
  • Position reports to the Austin, TX office and may allow for partial telecommuting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology or related field followed by 8 years of progressive, postbaccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a related Database Engineer or Systems/Software Engineer occupation.
  • Alternatively, employer will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology or related field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a related Database Engineer or Systems/Software Engineer occupation.
  • Position requires experience in the following skills:
  • Cloud platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure, or AWS;
  • Developing and maintaining cloud architecture frameworks, including cloud-native solutions;
  • Designing and implementing cloud-based infrastructure solutions and platform components using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, like Terraform or CloudFormation;
  • Database technologies, including traditional RDBMS (Oracle and MySQL and PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB and DynamoDB), and AWS's cloud-native solutions (RDS, Aurora and DocumentDB);
  • Implementing continuous availability architecture to provide uninterrupted service;
  • DevOps practices and tools;
  • Database design and architecture, performance optimization & monitoring, migration & modernization, and data security & disaster recovery;
  • Database management and migration across on-premises and cloud environments;
  • Ensuring high availability, scalability, and robust data protection for enterprise-grade database systems;
  • Leading successful migrations from on-premises to cloud platforms, minimizing downtime and preserving data integrity;
  • Scripting languages like Shell and Python;
  • Database technologies in a containerized environment, utilizing container orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes or similar platform; and
  • Methodologies and techniques for large-scale application transition to the cloud.

Additional Information

Worksite: Austin, TX

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs. 

Travel Requirements: Domestic travel required 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $170,498.00 to $229,300.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for an annual bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position is eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Program, FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time off and Wellness Programs.
