Job Description
Visa is seeking an attorney to support mainly Visa’s business operations in the Southern Cone (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia) as part of Visa’s Legal & Compliance team for the Latin America & Caribbean region.
This role requires a commercially focused legal professional with proven expertise in financial regulatory matters, contract negotiation, and civil, commercial, and consumer law. The successful candidate will act as a strategic partner to the business, handling diverse legal issues. It demands agility, ownership, and strategic thinking to support the company's strategy in today's fast-changing legal and industry environment.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on financial regulatory frameworks applicable in the five jurisdictions, monitor regulatory developments, support regulatory implementation strategies.
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (services, partnerships, vendor contracts, technology and SaaS agreements, etc.), assess and encourage risk-based legal advice.
Review marketing initiatives, terms and conditions, and agreements to support local teams in designing legally compliant initiatives.
Provide integrated legal support across Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, align legal advice with regional and global teams.
Act as a trusted advisor to business, product and other stakeholders, provide training and guidance on legal and regulatory matters.
Contribute to process improvement, knowledge management, and legal operations efficiency, leverage technology -including AI- and best practices to deliver high-quality legal services.
Work with other members of the legal team and outside counsel to manage local claims and litigation matters with strategic, risk mitigating mindset.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
- Law degree with strong academic credentials.
- Master’s degree or specialization in corporate, banking, business law, fintech, or law and economics (desirable).
- 5+ years legal experience in payments, fintech, financial institutions, or relevant top tier or specialized boutique law firm practice.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Commercial contracts, financial regulation, civil and commercial law, and consumer law knowledge.
- Excellent legal analytical and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and trust-building skills.
- Proactive, agile, independent, results-oriented, detail-focused.
- Experience with AI in legal matters and operations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, multiple stakeholders and meet tight deadlines.
