Senior Director, Service Business Development

The Senior Director, Service Business Development is responsible for owning and executing the commercial strategy for Vestas' Service business in North America, delivering on annual regional KPIs that encompass FOI revenue and CM% targets. The work includes defining and evolving our product offerings, managing risk while creating commercial opportunities, and building deep customer intimacy to ensure Vestas' position as the partner of choice for customers' service needs across their fleet.

This individual will lead and develop a team of commercial professionals, partnering across functional areas, including Service Operations and New Turbine Sales, to ensure alignment between our strategic objectives and operational realities while boosting sales growth and customer value. Success in this role will require a blend of creative market thinking, strategic execution, and the ability to guide and motivate in a complex, matrixed environment. The Sr. Director will balance the need to deliver short-term results in a publicly traded company with the responsibility to shape and advance a long-term vision for the Service business, ensuring that today's priorities align with tomorrow's goals.

Responsibilities:

Sales and Business Development Responsibilities
  1. Develop and execute the Service Business Development strategy for North America, including defining new commercial offerings, partnership models, and customer engagement strategies while accounting for our goals and constraints from our colleagues in New Turbine Sales.
  2. Evaluate market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify and shape opportunities that align with Vestas' strategic objectives.
  3. Guide the commercial creativity of the team, creating a culture of ideation while ensuring disciplined execution of priorities.
  4. Own the commercial positioning of new and existing service products to the market, managing inputs from stakeholders on financial and operational risks while creating value.
  5. Build and nurture customer relationships, ensuring a deep understanding of their business needs while positioning Vestas as a trusted partner with related but independent business needs.
  6. Support the team in - or lead, in the case of escalations - negotiations on complex commercial deals with a focus on creating win-win outcomes and ensuring Vestas' risk management and profitability objectives are met.
  7. Seek and engage with feedback on individual and business line performance from stakeholders.
  8. Partner cross-functionally with stakeholder organizations to align offerings and delivery models to customer and market needs.
  9. Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and development within the team while advocating for Vestas' values.
  10. Act as a thought leader in the Service business, bringing forward insights and strategies to shape Vestas' market positioning in the long-term.
  11. Participate in the leadership of the Service Commercial team by partnering with fellow leaders to promote a healthy team culture, address issues proactively, and provide peer coaching and constructive feedback that facilitates shared learning and collective accountability across the leadership group.

Qualifications:
  1. 10+ years of experience in commercial leadership, sales, business development, or product management in the energy, renewables, or industrial services sectors.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop well-functioning teams.
  3. Experience in developing and implementing commercial approaches that drive notable results.
  4. Experience with customer relationship management and building long-term partnerships.
  5. Strong aptitude for negotiation that effectively supports the structuring and closure of intricate business agreements.
  6. Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
  7. Experience working with quantitative analyses, financial modeling, and business case development.
  8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with CRM (Salesforce).
  9. Proficient in both spoken and written communication.
  10. High level of motivation, curiosity, and commitment to delivering outstanding results.
  11. Ability to create a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture.

Competencies:
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  2. Ability to interact frequently with others in a professional, courteous manner.
  3. Ability to identify processes required to organize and execute activities into an efficient workflow.
  4. Ability to learn and utilize multiple software programs to manage business tasks.
  5. Ability to travel within the US and Canada (35% - 50% travel) with occasional (~1/year) international travel.
