The domain architect - Cloud Engineering will provide the technology thought leadership to shape the cloud engineering and enablement agenda for various technology programs and associated product families for Vanguard's Institutional Investor Group. The role will entail defining the cloud architecture patterns for strategic business technology programs with a hands-on development approach.

This role:
- Leads the definition of product roadmaps and architecture for a product family, according to business strategies and enterprise architecture.
- Persuade and influence Business and Information Technology (IT) leaders on the architectural direction for strategic technology projects.
- Collaborates with the broader architecture community to ensure that their products align with target architectures and technology roadmaps and provides input on required platform capabilities and improving development tools/processes.
- Defines reference and application architectures.
- Develops proof-of-concept prototypes and initial implementation models.
- Monitors implementation activity to ensure architecture and engineering best practices are upheld.
- Ensures implementation solutions support architecture objectives (availability, scalability, performance, security, etc.), as appropriate.
- Communicates complicated technical concepts effectively to a broad group of stakeholders.
- Establishes relationships with IT leaders, architects, and technical specialists for the purpose of advancing proposed architectural solutions.
- Utilizes a general understanding of the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of eight years relevant work experience.
- A recognized Thought Leader with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to create clarity and certainty when there is Architecture ambiguity; communicate to all stakeholders at varying levels within the Organization.
- Research Emerging Technologies, take hands on approach to technologies and if applicable, lead the buildout of POC's that demonstrate the potential relevance in business domains.
- Cloud Compute, Networking and VPC Component Services, CI/CD, OOP and TDD
- Full-Stack development experience - Java, Spring, Angular and DB technologies
- Database skills - Oracle, PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
- Facilitates and advices on Enterprise level delivery and design of reusable artifacts and API interface specifications (XSD/WSDL/WADL/Swagger/OpenAPI/YAML) and API security standards and implementation (Oauth, OpenId)
- Ability to learn and apply the knowledge of Amazon Services: Amazon API Gateway, EC2, ECS, SQS, SNS, Lambda, AWS RDS (DynamoDB, Postgres, Aurora), CloudFront, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
- Experience in financial services industry, specifically investment management and/or banking is preferred.
