Stationary Engineer

Swing Shift Position

The Stationary Engineer assists in performing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs for the Heating Plant 3 automatically fired, high pressure boilers and 2 Centrifugal chillers which produce steam/chilled water for heat/cooling. 

He/she also assists in the preparation of the boilers/chillers for an annual inspections cleaning, and maintains accurate and timely technical records of repairs, including tolerances, clearances, and parts. He/she is also responsible for operating boilers/centrifugal chillers on a fill in basis as assigned and as a part of the regular work schedule.


 

Job Duties

  • Repairs and maintains power plant equipment using hand and power tools. Assists with energizing and securing power distribution systems, including steam, natural gas, diesel and complies with lockout/tagout procedures. (55%) Assists with boiler/chiller outage work including cleaning and refractory repairs. (10%) Operates boilers/chillers on an as needed basis as assigned. (15%)
  • Required to follow all safety policies and procedures, maintains strict attention to detail when working on job sites; recognize safety hazards and propose methods to correct/eliminate them.
  • Escort vendors onsite to perform routine preventative maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and respond within 45 minutes to after-hours emergency maintenance requests as needed; shifts: 6:30 am - 2:30 pm; 2:30 pm - 10:30 pm; 10:30 pm - 6:30 am
  • Must be available to respond to be afterhours calls and emergency events.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Required Qualifications

  • High School or Equivalency Diploma
  • 2 years of previous plant experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Must have the ability to successfully complete all required training within a 6 month probationary period.
  • Must have the ability to successfully all required training.
  • EPA Certifications
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
