Chief Engineer

What this job involves: As Chief Engineer at JLL, you will lead the technical operations and engineering strategy for our portfolio of commercial real estate properties, ensuring optimal performance, sustainability, and tenant satisfaction. This role positions you at the forefront of facilities management, where you'll drive innovative engineering solutions while building and mentoring high-performing technical teams.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Directs maintenance and operational programs to ensure maximum life, reliability and efficiency of all property mechanical systems, which include, but are not limited to plumbing, electrical and HVAC including auxiliary equipment.

  • Directs general building maintenance including restroom repair, door, ceiling and floor repair, structural repair, tenant comfort and painting.

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of engineering staff.

  • Provides the engineering staff with equipment and tools.

  • Controls engineering activities and building mechanical systems in emergency situations.

  • Recommends appropriate engineering staffing levels.

  • Interviews, trains, evaluate and counsels engineering staff on performance.

  • Monitors and approves time sheets for engineering staff.

  • Maintains good tenant relations through prompt and courteous response to tenant requests within the guidelines set forth by JLL.

  • Maintains required OSHA and worker’s Compensation safety and accident reports on engineering personnel and facilities.

  • Tests, keeps records and maintains emergency equipment in good working order.

  • Monitors building energy use, produces reports, proposes and maintains energy management programs.

  • Maintains current and historical preventive maintenance records on all mechanical equipment.

  • Evaluates, recommends and monitors mechanical contractors.

  • Initiates any necessary insurance claims on HVAC and other central plant equipment.

  • Monitors metered tenant bill-backs.

  • Assist in preparing the annual budget to actual expense/income.

  • Purchases parts and supplies according to company policy and approved budget guidelines.

  • Works closely with the inventory control program to ensure appropriate parts, stocking levels and accuracy align with the site’s needs.

  • Follows tenant instruction and ensures building integrity.

  • Maintains blueprint organization and update.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years working in facilities with demonstrated knowledge and skills to understand and navigate various systems and equipment.

  • Possession of pertinent certificates and licenses applicable to commercial building maintenance.

  • Possess strong leadership and relationship building qualities

  • Experience in supporting compliant Environmental, Health and Safety training program related to facility management operations

  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service

  • Knowledge of CMMS principals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in facilities with advanced guided robotic systems – Automated guided vehicles (AGV) and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS).

  • Experience in GxP environments – pharmaceutical or manufacturing.

  • Experience in driving OSHA compliant safety program and maintaining environmental compliance related to facility operations (Air, Water, Waste Management).
