General Summary:
We're seeking a Senior Product Owner to play a critical role in driving continuous improvement and modernization within Unum's Long-Term Care (LTC) systems. Rather than owning a single product or Scrum team, this individual will manage work across two Scrum teams and partner with existing Product Owners.
The Senior Product Owner will focus on business alignment, delivery accountability, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring business requirements are well defined, communicated, and successfully translated into technical delivery.
This is a highly collaborative and visible role that requires both technical fluency and strong business acumen. The ideal candidate thrives in Agile environments, can navigate legacy systems, and brings strong communication and organizational skills to manage complexity across teams.
Location: Hybrid, onsite at our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN or Atlanta (Sandy Springs), GA campus.
Job Specs:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- 5+ years of Product Owner or Senior Business Analyst experience, preferably within Agile frameworks
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, backlog management, and stakeholder alignment
- Familiarity with tools such as Rally, Smartsheet, and data platforms like Snowflake
- Strong communication and facilitation skills across both business and technical teams
- Ability to manage across multiple initiatives and hold teams accountable for deliverables
- Demonstrated success translating complex business needs into actionable requirements
- Experience within insurance or regulated industries preferred, but not required
- Must be highly organized, self-directed, and collaborative with a focus on outcomes
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a cross-functional leader managing shared workstreams across two Scrum teams; provide oversight and support to team-level Product Owners
- Liaise with business stakeholders to understand goals, define requirements, and ensure alignment on priorities, risks, and progress
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business leads to ensure smooth translation of business needs into deliverables
- Participate in daily standups, backlog grooming, and planning sessions using tools like Rally and Smartsheet
- Own accountability for the delivery of key system improvements within the LTC domain, focusing on process-oriented solutions over individual product features
- Update leadership and stakeholders regularly on delivery progress, risks, and dependencies
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery performance and product quality
- Learn and navigate legacy systems and Snowflake as needed to support business data and platform needs
- Uphold Unum's Agile standards and coach others on best practices when needed
