General Summary:
Unum is growing and seeking a Director of IT Delivery, DevOps to support our Total Leave area. This leader will drive the strategic design and implementation of DevOps, CI/CD, and Quality Assurance for coding and testing solutions, aligning technical architectures across business portfolios to achieve key objectives. The role partners closely with senior architects and technical leaders to ensure scalable, maintainable frameworks and standards.
This individual will provide leadership to multiple Agile and infrastructure teams, delivering solutions that enhance or transform IT capabilities across business and technical domains. They play a key role in implementing portfolio components for a given BDH, Value Stream, or infrastructure function. Collaborating with their manager, product owners, and other stakeholders, they define delivery priorities aligned with available technical, financial, and human resources. They also build strong partnerships across BDHs and Value Streams, ensuring effective communication and the successful execution of IT plans that support business goals.
This is a hybrid opportunity, requiring at least 3 days on campus in Portland, Maine, Chattanooga, TN or Columbia, SC.
Job Specifications
- Degree in computer science or relevant technical experience preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in IT or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Prior people management experience preferred.
- Proven ability to lead successful IT plan execution that enables business or technical capabilities.
- Strong understanding of Agile and Lean leadership principles.
- Takes smart risks and inspires innovation by motivating others to be proactive and resourceful.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more technologies or industries.
- Applies broad understanding of business and technology trends to support IT implementation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of DevOps, CI/CD, Quality Assurance, and Test Automation platforms with a focus on compliance and governance.
- Design and deliver DevOps and QA solutions aligned with business goals, working closely with senior architects and technical leaders to ensure scalable, maintainable frameworks.
- Guide the technology roadmap, adapting to changing demands and leading cross-functional teams to influence strategic decisions.
- Deep expertise in DevOps, Test Automation, and platforms such as Azure, GitHub, with preferred tools including Octopus Deploy, SonarQube, Veracode, and automation frameworks.
- Apply Agile/Lean methodologies and continuous deployment practices to support enterprise architecture.
- Ensure DevOps and QA practices are agile, operational, and measurable within deployment environments.
- Partner with Product Owners and Business Consultants to advance digital and DevOps maturity.
- Lead multiple Agile teams in delivering business and technology outcomes.
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to provide strategic guidance on technology and architecture.
- Define and manage a change portfolio and roadmap to meet business objectives.
- Collaborate across IT disciplines to ensure timely and successful delivery of business solutions.
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders involved in IT planning and implementation.
- Drive adoption of technical and architectural roadmap goals in partnership with practice leaders.
- Use expertise in IT and emerging tech to guide development, testing, and deployment of services.
- Build and maintain a strong, diverse talent pipeline; coach and develop team members for high performance.
- Support the development of self-organizing, empowered, collaborative Agile teams.
- Ensure Agile teams follow best practices in software engineering, including TDD, peer reviews, CI/CD, test automation, and retrospective reviews.
- Benchmark Infrastructure and Operations services to maintain appropriate cost and performance levels.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of infrastructure services.
- Analyze trends and KPIs to drive performance improvement and organizational success.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
