General Summary:

The Director, Marketing is the primary driver of marketing work to discern customer needs, translate those into customer requirements and develop marketing strategies to drive growth including value proposition, market positioning, purchase dynamics and high-level promotional approach.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Articulate customer requirements for offerings or initiatives, specifically outlining pain points, needed solutions and critical considerations in providing those solutions.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing plans that incorporate compelling value propositions, optimal distribution mechanisms, behaviorally informed pricing strategies and innovative, customer-centric promotion
  • Influence and partner with business leadership to advocate for customer requirements and marketing plans in all aspects of the offering development and delivery process.
  • Ensure consistency of Performance Marketing and Marketing Support efforts with both customer requirements and business strategy, by setting goals and objectives and representing both bodies of work to the marketing teams.
  • Curate business partners experience of the comprehensive marketing approach for key initiatives by streamlining engagement, socializing the marketing efforts, and incorporating business changes and new priorities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • 6-10 years of experience in customer requirements and/or marketing strategy; will also consider MBA with relevant marketing and professional experience
  • Familiarity with modern marketing, but diverse industries and past roles welcomed
  • Experience leading in a matrixed environment, preferred but not required
  • Customer-centric mindset, particularly the ability to think ethnographically and identify customer needs/pain points.
  • Ability to influence business leaders, including strong relationship-building, communication and presentation skills.
  • Diverse perspectives on marketing strategy, including specific capabilities in value proposition development, distribution, pricing strategy and promotion.
  • Analytic capabilities, including the ability to discern and elevate key learnings from customer & field sales engagements, market research and strategy implementation results.
  • Metrics-based mindset to track and evaluate progress and key learnings.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and maintain focus on key strategic business objectives.
  • Disciplined, strategic approach to developing integrated marketing plans with defined outcomes.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,900.00-$169,900.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
