General Summary:

This position provides strategic technology leadership and transformation services that align with and support Unum's business goals, with a focus on driving simplification, modernization, and optimization across a diverse IT portfolio of corporate applications. This includes shaping long-term strategy, enabling innovative solutions, overseeing key delivery efforts, and supporting performance reporting to executive leadership. Working at the intersection of technology and business, this role will play a key part in influencing technology roadmaps, improving business capabilities, and guiding stakeholders through complex platform transitions.

This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week on-site at one of the following locations: Chattanooga, TN; Columbia, SC; Portland, ME; or Atlanta, GA.

Job Specifications

  • 8+ years of experience in IT strategy, transformation, or enterprise delivery.
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical/business experience preferred.
  • Experience delivering technology solutions across legacy and modern platforms (e.g., mainframe, .NET, AWS, SaaS such as Workday).
  • Demonstrates leadership in executing IT plans successfully that enable technical or business capabilities and address technology or business priorities
  • Proven ability to lead and manage high-performing teams; prior people management required.
  • Strong strategic thinking and critical analysis skills with the ability to align technology with business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical ideas into business terms.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Lean principles and experience applying them to enterprise delivery and planning.
  • Familiarity with IT portfolio management and application rationalization strategies a plus.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills across business and technical teams.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Able to facilitate technical discussions with senior business and technology leaders and have a commanding presence combined with strong, clear and concise communications skills
  • Responsible for defining business capabilities, decomposition of said capabilities into further levels of detail, capability gap analysis and capability maturity models and progression thereof
  • Accountable for driving/developing business case value levers, technology cost models, and justification for recommended technology initiatives/options
  • Accountable for building, and advancing technology roadmaps
  • Leverages deep understanding of IT, emerging technologies, and technical capabilities to guide and influence stakeholders and teams in developing solutions, build, deployment, testing and ongoing management of IT services.
  • Understands patterns and trends that contribute to utilizing key performance indicators and critical success factors that will improve the performance of the organization.
  • Provides recommendations based on strong front-to-back understanding of exiting digital capabilities and frameworks combined with a strong understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Understands and supports organizational goals/priorities and contributes to strategic decisions.
  • Understands, supports and drives definition and adoption of Unum's Agile Framework (based on scaled agile framework)
  • Acts as a role-model and mentor for other IT professionals at various levels in technical matters and related business operations.
  • Acts as a role model for developing and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with all constituents including business and IT peers and leaders.
  • Acts as a role model for collaborative and persuasive communication with senior business and IT leaders, peers and partners.
  • Recommends, promotes and delivers effective, high-quality solutions within agreed upon timeframes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
