General Summary:
We're seeking a Director, IT Delivery to lead strategic technology initiatives in support of Unum's Enrollment platforms, including Harmony App, Harmony Connect, and Gathr.
This opportunity will guide multiple Agile teams through delivery of impactful solutions and enhancements, fostering collaboration with leaders across IT and business operations.
You'll be responsible for managing cross-functional teams, supporting enterprise change initiatives, and optimizing delivery across a global workforce (US and Ireland). Ideal candidates are technical, collaborative, solution-oriented leaders who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Location: 3 days per week onsite in Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN or Columbia, SC.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in IT, with at least some prior management experience
- Proven success in leading technology plans that drive business value
- Strong understanding of Agile/Lean principles and software engineering best practices
- Technical acumen: familiarity with cloud and distributed systems strongly desired
- Strategic thinker with excellent communication, planning, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional and multi-location environments
- Ability to influence without direct authority and foster a high-performance culture
- Comfortable with fast-paced, meeting-heavy mornings and shifting priorities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead delivery for 2-4 Agile teams, between the U.S. and Ireland
- Oversee daily operations including strategic problem-solving, team collaboration, and outcome-based delivery
- Manage budget and financial planning in coordination with Program Managers and Change Leaders
- Build strong relationships with business partners including Enrollment leadership
- Own succession planning, team development, and field-readiness for evolving priorities
- Define and manage a portfolio of change initiatives, aligning to business objectives
- Engage in cross-functional planning and provide architectural and technical guidance
- Influence stakeholders to align on priorities and ensure timely, quality delivery
- Ensure Agile teams apply best practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and automation
- Promote self-organizing, empowered teams by removing blockers and encouraging continuous improvement
- Benchmark Infrastructure and Operations teams for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Serve as a thought leader in cloud-based and distributed technologies

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
