General Summary:

A Principal Digital Transformation Spec is responsible for leading and delivering complex strategic and transformational digital solutions with the goal of achieving a superior experience for the customer and operational effectiveness. The role will focus primarily on large scale, transformational projects. The incumbent will work closely with senior leadership of assigned business areas along with key management stakeholders to help influence strategic digital based solutions to improve the functional area. The individual will input into strategic decisions while also leading the execution of digital change. They will ensure that solutions being considered align with the strategic direction of the company and are of high quality and will result in a significant financial ROI for the assigned functional area. The role will have ownership, along with senior leadership, for achieving financial, operational and customer experience goals.

This role requires extensive technology, analytical, leadership and business knowledge to effectively transform the business. This role may serve as a manager to a small team of transformation professionals and/or will help coach and develop lower-level peers

This is a hybrid opportunity available in one of the following locations: Portland, ME; Atlanta, GA; Chattanooga, TN; Baton Rouge, LA; or Columbia, SC.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in delivering customer value through problem solving, analytics, and/or digital solutions.
  • Strong understanding of customer journeys, behaviors, and expectations as they relate to digital technology investments.
  • Demonstrated success in driving digital transformation through customer adoption, user experience research, and marketing initiatives.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end project delivery, including risk management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Previous operations experience.
  • Skilled in building a culture of change with a focus on operational readiness and cross-functional buy-in.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing operationally.
  • Background in Computer Science or Information Systems is a plus

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead technology and process assessments within assigned functions and present digital solution recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Partner with Product Owners to shape long-term digital and technology roadmaps that align with company strategy and deliver operational, customer experience, and financial benefits.
  • Develop business cases and financial models to support project investment decisions.
  • Analyze internal processes and external trends to identify business opportunities and recommend actionable strategies.
  • Design digital solutions that align with business goals, reduce operational costs, and enhance customer experience.
  • Reimagine and simplify processes to drive transformation through digital tools.
  • Lead change management efforts and champion digital transformation across teams.
  • Conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analyses to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Maintain a strong customer-centric mindset, using data to improve engagement and experience.
  • Drive large-scale transformation projects focused on improving customer experience and operational readiness.
  • Use advanced data modeling and storytelling to influence senior leadership on digital initiatives.
  • Continuously seek learning opportunities to deepen technical and operational industry knowledge.
  • Mentor junior transformation specialists and occasionally manage a small team.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with business leaders, project managers, and subject matter experts to identify needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Coordinate across journey and technical dependencies with Product Owners and IT teams to deliver value.
  • Leverage commercial awareness to identify opportunities for digital solutions that enhance performance and customer experience.
  • Stay current on emerging digital technology trends.
  • Consistently advocate for customer-focused solutions that elevate experience and satisfaction.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
