As a full-time, exempt Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, you work under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy. This position is responsible for, including but not limited to, workflow optimization, productivity evaluation, completion of daily work and direct supervision of the Pharmacy Technician team. You will carry out your job duties according to written procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements.

Location: Memorial Hospital of Gardena in Gardena, CA

Pharmacy Hours: The centralized pharmacy is open 24/7 and supported by CPOE and Pyxis

Schedule: This full time, nonexempt position will work 40 hours/week in a variety of day/evening/night shifts in this 24/7 centralized pharmacy

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise pharmacy technician staff including training, performance evaluations, scheduling, organizing workloads, hiring, coaching, and handling 'call-offs'
  • Assist pharmacists and healthcare providers by gathering necessary information and supporting workflow efficiency
  • Oversee the preparation and compounding of medications (including IV admixtures and sterile products) by pharmacy technician staff following hospital protocols and USP 797 or 800 standards
  • Oversee and supervise pharmacy technician medication order processing
  • Supervise and oversee pharmacy technician delivery of medications to patient care areas, including automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and nursing units
  • Oversee medication purchasing, inventory, and controlled substance audits and assist as necessary
  • Oversee and support medication safety initiatives, including double-checks, labeling, and documentation
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure timely and safe medication delivery, especially when assisting in pharmacy technician duties, you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Responsibilities may include preparing, delivering, and restocking medications, performing order entry, procuring drugs, and billing as necessary.
  • Comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state/federal regulations

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current California pharmacy technician license in good standing
  • National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB/CPhT) or ability to obtain within six months of acceptance of this role
  • 5+ years of recent pharmacy technician experience in a hospital setting
  • 3+ years of experience with inventory management and medication purchasing
  • 3+ years of experience creating pharmacy technician staff work schedules and training
  • 3+ years of IV and compounding experience
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency with Pyxis and CPOE pharmacy software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating and conducting staff performance evaluations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $49,700 to $88,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
