PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Resident

As a full time, exempt PGY-2 Pharmacy Resident with CPS Solutions, LLC at Fulton State Hospital, you will participate in a twelve (12) month psychiatry program designed to transition PGY1 residency graduates from generalist practice to specialized practice focused on the care of patients with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders. Residency graduates are equipped to participate as integral members of inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary teams caring for individuals with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders, assuming responsibility for patient-centered medication therapy.

About the Facility: FSH is the oldest State Psychiatric Hospital west of the Mississippi River. The hospital underwent a dramatic change that will have a positive impact on the services it provides over the coming decades. In August 2019, our state-of-the-art facility opened, revolutionizing the treatment we provide our clients.

FSH operates three distinct treatment centers, each offering customized programs to meet the needs of our clients. Together, these centers treat up to 450 clients with two levels of security. They include: 1) Nixon Forensic Center (NFC), a high-security center that can treat up to 300 clients; 2) the Sex Offender Rehabilitation and Treatment Services (SORTS), a high-security center that can treat up to 200 civilly committed Sexually Violent Predators; and 3) Hearnes Psychiatric Center (HPC), a minimum-security center that can treat up to 24 clients with developmental disabilities and severe mental illness. HPC also includes the Hearnes Acute Rehabilitation Program (HARP), a non-forensic acute stabilization unit that can treat up to 15 clients. HARP provides short-term stabilization and skills development for individuals with developmental disabilities who are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms, helping them prepare for a successful return to the community.

Primary Responsibilities:
Evaluates, interprets, compounds, and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to written orders/prescriptions issued by an authorized prescriber. Evaluates and clarifies medication orders or prescriptions with prescribers.

Identifies, strives to prevent, assesses, and resolves medication related problems to ensure a safe patient outcome.
Promotes safe, efficacious, and cost-effective medication therapy by participating in the provision and documentation of clinical pharmacy services and execution of medication utilization initiatives (e.g., IV to PO conversion program, renal dosing). Responds to medication related inquires from other health care professionals and patients.
Maintains professional competencies to meet current and future needs of the patients and customer.
Oversees technicians in accordance with department policies and procedures. Ensures all patient care provided meets or exceeds all regulations, statutes, and JCAHO standards. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency
Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy and a current pharmacist license in good standing with the Department of Professional Regulation
Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems

Preferred Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services.
Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology
Effective verbal and written communication skills are required
Ability to effectively participate on an interdisciplinary team or committee
Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics
Problem solving ability and analytical thinking preferred

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $55,000 to $85,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
