Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support for pharmacy benefit management regulatory issues, including providing business leaders with effective advice and counsel on problem solving and coordination of legal and business considerations, spanning broad segment of payors such as employers, unions, health plans and government payors (Medicare and Medicaid)
  • Identify, research, analyze, interpret, and apply legal and regulatory requirements (state and federal) and determine implications for the business and proper implementation of the requirements
  • Prepare thorough and effective legal writing/memos and analysis
  • Cultivate and maintain solid collaborative relationships with business clients, regulators, internal business partners, and legal/compliance/privacy/regulatory affairs colleagues
  • Provide ongoing education and training on best practices on legal and compliance matters to business clients
  • Participate in occasional business travel to meet with regulators, clients and business teams
  • As a member of the Optum Rx legal team, close collaboration with colleagues is expected, as well as a willingness and resilience to adapt to the changing legal support requirements of our growing and complex business

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • 5+ years of legal experience in health care or managed care regulatory practices
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining rapport and collaboration with superiors and peers, and external company contacts, with demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to team effort

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the pharmacy and pharmacy benefits management industries
  • Experience working with a variety of payors, and interacting with regulators
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, legal writing, and regulatory analysis
  • Proven growth and curiosity mindset

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
