About the team:

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership within the Verify platform. This role owns complex problem spaces, leads multi-engineer initiatives, and drives technical solutions that improve product capabilities, reliability, and scalability. You are recognized as an expert within your technical area and operate independently with guidance only on the most complex matters.

About the role:

• Software Development: Lead the design and implementation of complex Verify services and shared components. Contribute hands-on code in critical paths.

• Technical Strategy: Drive technical direction for major Verify initiatives, including API design, data access strategies, performance optimization, and security enforcement. Communicate trade-offs and influence adoption of solutions.

• Leadership: Lead projects with moderate risk and complexity. Coordinate activities across engineers and collaborate closely with product, data, and platform teams.

• Architectural Excellence: Architect and evolve services to meet scale, reliability, and compliance needs. Collaborate with architects on mid- and high-level designs.

• Complexity: Solve complex, ambiguous issues using analytical thinking. Establish technical precedents and reusable patterns.

• Impact: Impact area-level objectives by shaping team practices, improving service reliability, and executing major technical initiatives.

• Service Health and Quality: Own service health for key Verify components. Use telemetry and incident data to drive corrective and preventive actions.

• Engineering Excellence Practices: Set expectations for testing, code quality, and operational readiness. Enforce a high bar for engineering excellence.

• DevOps Model: Own end-to-end delivery of major services, from requirements through deployment and ongoing production support.

• Testing: Define and implement test strategies for complex services, including contract and performance testing.

• Code Review: Serve as a primary reviewer for complex changes, ensuring correctness, resilience, and maintainability.

• Mentorship: Informally mentor engineers based on expertise, focusing on design quality and ownership.

• Documentation: Ensure architectural decisions, APIs, and operational behaviors are well documented.

• Innovation: Identify and advocate for tools or practices that measurably improve system quality or delivery efficiency.

About You:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience delivering enterprise-level software using Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience with agentic development approaches to maximize impact and productivity
  • Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL data stores
  • Proficiency with Git and common branching and collaboration workflows
  • Recent hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and public cloud platforms.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems in production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Go, or similar) with hands-on contribution to critical code paths.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and supporting scalable, reliable services, including use of automated testing, code review practices, and production monitoring.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying multi-tenant cloud-based


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading multi-engineer technical initiatives with moderate risk and complexity.
  • Experience implementing performance optimization and security enforcement mechanisms within service architectures.
  • Experience defining and implementing contract, integration, and performance testing strategies.
  • Experience using telemetry, logging, and incident data to drive reliability improvements.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments.

The pay range for this position is $129,500 to $186,100. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and work location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan and to receive restricted stock unit awards as part of total compensation.
