We are looking for a principal designer who loves learning, is passionate about conceiving experiences in the abstract, and then driving that vision into solid design deliverables such as complex workflows, wireframes, user interface designs, interaction models, and prototypes for both web and mobile experiences. Working closely with the design systems team, you will help set the UX vision, shape the evolution of our design systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, AI-first products.
We are looking for a highly experienced, visionary team member who impacts company-wide design strategy and leads peers by example and influence. This role combines design principles, technical skills, and leadership with a focus on creating user-centered experiences across various products that make up UKG's enterprise suite. You will work at the intersection of UX design and engineering, requiring a strong understanding of both user experience principles and technical implementation to bridge the gap between design and development, and focusing on creating intuitive and efficient user experiences based on thorough research. Excellent communication skills also are crucial, as you will be responsible for developing and presenting strategies, concepts, and designs to large groups, cross-functional teams, and executives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & UX Vision: Support design leadership to develop our UX strategy and set the vision for product development, aligning with business goals and user needs. Advocate user-centered design principles and promote design thinking across the organization, influencing product direction and prioritization.
Information Architecture & Service Design Thinking: Optimize navigation and user journeys by organizing content and establishing logical structures. Approach design holistically across mediums, focusing on atomic-level data and adapting to user interactions.
AI Integration & Design Systems: Advocate for Generative AI in design processes to drive innovation, usability, and accessibility. Guide and drive management of dynamic design systems, transitioning to AI-driven parameter setting for consistent product quality.
End-to-End Design & Execution: Lead the design process from concept to completion, including research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration. Develop detailed wireframes and prototypes, ensuring high-quality implementation.
Project Management & Collaboration: Manage commitments and deadlines across multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
User Research & Data-Driven Design: Conduct and oversee user research to uncover insights and validate design decisions. Utilize data analytics to inform design choices and measure UX impact, developing user personas and journey maps.
Process Improvement & Innovation: Define and refine design processes to enhance efficiency and support business goals, focusing on AI-driven methodologies. Incorporate innovative practices into product development by staying up to date with industry trends.
Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor designers, fostering continuous learning and growth. Contribute to team processes and assist with recruitment and talent development.
Join us in leading the future of UX design at UKG in modernizing and bringing together transformative user experiences and driving innovation in our product suite.
About you,
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in UX design, product design, or a related field, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a proven track record of leading and delivering successful design projects. This must include at least 3 years in a leadership or principal-level position and at least 5 years of experience designing user interfaces for both web and mobile platforms, ensuring responsive and adaptive design across various devices and screen sizes.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Graphic Design, Information Sciences, Psychology, or a related field.
- Mastery of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Adobe XD). Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is often a plus, as is experience with Agile methodologies and tools (JIRA, Confluence).
- Strong understanding of user-centered design, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, content strategy, and usability principles. Interaction Design: Designers will rapidly generate multiple designs, focusing on curation rather than creation, requiring an understanding of human behavior beyond design patterns. Visual Design: Translates brand identity into visually appealing digital products, with AI generating designs from prompts, brand guidelines, and design systems, shifting the role of visual designers away from being art directors for AI.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and storytelling skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities; adept at navigating ambiguity and influencing product direction.
- A portfolio is required to be submitted as part of the application.
