Staff Software Engineer (Android)

About the Role

Earners org owns the driver app (Carbon) which is the driver side view of the Uber marketplace. As the org matures, the need for a foundational app platform team has been conceptualized which will build platform features around the overall health of the app - Including running key initiatives like

• Earner Co Pilot: GenAI based personalized, permanent advisor
• In-vehicle experiences
• Audio governance.
• Battery optimisation
• App release and Testing Strategy

As a Staff engineer in this domain - you will be responsible for showing thought leadership and hustle in execution on all key domains listed above and more.

Dealing with ambiguity is a key requirement from the staff engg as the team is just getting formed and has a huge scope to expand.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

• 7+ years software engineering experience
• Strong expertise in Android engineering, keeping up-to-date on the latest developments
• Deep understanding of Android SDKs
• Product development experience
• Great communication skills and an ability to work in a team and with stakeholders
• Experience with writing, releasing, maintaining mobile applications

Bonus Points

• Experience in development in large scale systems
• Metric/data driven approach to problem solving
• Familiarity with high memory usage apps, like navigation or video streaming.

• Create delightful and groundbreaking Android applications and features for our Driver app.
• Pick and choose the latest developments in the Android ecosystem to integrate into the app, e.g. widgets, overlays, Android Auto, etc.
• Dive deep into Uber mobile architecture and Google libraries to fully optimize user experience.
• Elevate the performance of the app with a focus on reliability, recoverability, and tolerance to any network conditions.
