About the Team
The Consumer Pricing and Incentives team is a cornerstone of Uber's Delivery business, directly influencing consumer behavior and shaping demand for products like food and groceries. Our systems operate at a very large scale, serving hundreds of millions of consumers and millions of merchants worldwide, with a rapid growth trajectory.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer who not only brings deep technical expertise but also a genuine passion for building and shipping products that have a tangible impact on our consumers. You'll be a technical and strategic leader, driving high-quality engineering and helping to raise the bar for our entire organization.
What You Will Do
Champion Engineering Quality: You'll be a key driver of engineering quality, helping to establish best practices across the team and beyond. We expect you to lead by example, write excellent code, and advocate for strong engineering principles.

Architect at Scale: Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and performant systems that can handle our global footprint. You'll tackle some of our most complex technical challenges, ensuring our systems are not just functional but built to last.
Drive Product Vision: Partner with product managers, data scientists, and business leaders to translate business goals into a clear technical vision. Your passion for building impactful products will guide the team in making technical decisions that directly contribute to our business's success.
Lead and Mentor: Act as a force multiplier for the team, providing technical mentorship to senior engineers and helping to develop the next generation of technical leaders. You'll foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Influence Broadly: Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience, from fellowengineers to executive leadership. Your ability to build consensus and drive alignment will be critical in shaping the technical direction of the broader organization.
--- Basic Qualifications ----
- Bachelor's/Master's degree or other equivalent in related field with 10+ years of experience in software engineering experience
- Experience in programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
- Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with large scale distributed system
- Demonstrated examples of project leadership roles, delivering production-level features from inception, and promoting a high-quality culture amongst the team
- Demonstrated experience of the operational aspects of monitoring, alerting, and structuring code for production-level debugging

- Prior experience in the pricing domain
- Knowledge of machine learning and/or optimization
- A background in product experimentation including the statistical knowledge, mechanics of experimentation and analysis so that you are able to interpret, debug and challenge experimental results when necessary

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$257,000 per year - USD$285,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$257,000 per year - USD$285,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$257,000 per year - USD$285,500 per year.
