Sr. Staff Engineer - Web

Uber Eats is on a mission to redefine how people discover and enjoy food, and the Growth team is at the heart of that journey. We incubate and scale new tactics for acquiring, engaging, and retaining users across the Uber Eats and Uber Rides apps.

As a Staff Frontend Engineer on the Growth team, you will be the technical cornerstone for our user acquisition and retention strategy. Your help will extend beyond feature development to setting the technical vision for how we engage from a technical level and grow our user base across our entire ecosystem.

You'll be architecting and leading our foundational frontend systems in a plethora of frameworks and technologies. You'll partner closely with Product, Data Science, and Design leadership to translate ambiguous business opportunities into concrete, scalable technical solutions This will include driving the vision and technical direction of the growth teams, while collaborating with passionate engineers that are as technical as you in challenges that scale up to millions of users every day.

What the Candidate Will Do:

Partner with leaders in Product, Data Science and Design teams to shape our product roadmap translating ambitious goals into scalable and well-defined engineering initiatives

Be a key contributor in our culture of engineering operational excellence leading by example to other engineers, owning the standards for system health, observability, and incident response among others

Increase exponentially the impact of the organization by mentoring senior and staff engineers, codifying best practices and design patterns, and participating in technical debates and engineering architectural review meetings

Lead high-impact initiatives that advance the technical strategy of the organization, driving decisions that impact multiple engineering teams

Identify and eliminate technical inefficiencies across our codebase and projects. You will create engineering value by building platforms, automating processes, and coaching engineers in data-driven technical decisions

You will mentor in the most complex technical challenges to the full engineering team including staff level engineers and will set the technical vision that inspires and guides the team at all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of software engineering experience
  2. Strong problem-solving skills, with expertise in algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
  3. Experience with distributed systems
  4. Resilience, determination, ownership mindset, and a keen appetite for collaborative efforts
  5. Depth in Web tech stack
  6. Consumer Product experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. 12+ years of engineering experience
  2. Web development and Growth experience
  3. Experience working at large companies (10k+)
  4. Experience working with distributed teams
  5. Prior experience working on a consumer Web or a growth team

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$257,000 per year - USD$285,500 per year.

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits. More details can be found at the following link https://www.uber.com/careers/benefits.
