Sr Engineering Manager, Compute Platform

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Compute Platform team in Bangalore, which is responsible for building and operating the large-scale distributed systems that power batch and stateful compute workloads across the company. This team provides the foundation for scalability, efficiency, and reliability, enabling engineers to run critical workloads on our internal platforms.

As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will oversee the strategy, development, and operation of our compute infrastructure. You will guide the team to innovate on scheduling, resource management, and platform reliability while ensuring seamless integration with upstream services and user-facing systems.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers responsible for compute orchestration and platform services.
  2. Define and execute the roadmap for our compute platform, focusing on scalability, performance, and efficiency.
  3. Drive architectural decisions and set technical direction for compute scheduling, resource allocation, and container orchestration systems.
  4. Ensure high availability and reliability of the compute platform through best-in-class observability, automation, and incident response practices.
  5. Collaborate with infrastructure, data, and product engineering teams to support diverse workloads (batch, streaming, ML, stateful).
  6. Manage stakeholder relationships and communicate trade-offs, timelines, and impact clearly to technical and business leaders.
  7. Build a culture of technical excellence, operational rigor, and continuous learning within the team.

---- Basic Qualifications ----
  1. 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering management.
  2. Proven experience leading teams working on large-scale compute platforms, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure.
  3. Deep technical expertise with compute schedulers such as YARN, Kubernetes, Mesos, or equivalent systems.
  4. Strong background in containerization, resource scheduling, and cluster management at scale.
  5. Hands-on experience with performance tuning, reliability engineering, and cost optimization in compute environments.
  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams.
  7. Ability to balance long-term vision with day-to-day execution and operational excellence.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----
  1. Experience with hybrid cloud or multi-cloud compute environments.
  2. Familiarity with modern stateful data infra and ML platforms running on top of compute infrastructure.
  3. Knowledge of emerging compute paradigms such as serverless, GPU scheduling, or federated orchestration.
  4. Prior experience working in fast-paced, large-scale environments with mission-critical workloads.
