Software Engineer II - Payment Selection (Backend)
About the Role
Being able to pay on Uber is a prerequisite for using the services we provide. Ensuring that users are able to understand how to pay and manage their payment options as efficiently and frictionlessly as possible is crucial for enabling us to provide the best-in-class user experience and for the success of our business.
The Payment Selection Capabilities team aims to pre-select and rank payment options for the given context and provides a way to make a quick and informed decision on how they want to pay and allow them to manage their payment options.
What You Will Do
As part of the Payment Selection team, you will have direct responsibility for vital systems and processes. You will take ownership of key features and initiatives in crafting and building high quality, scalable systems in making payments on our platform reliable and efficient. Your work will directly impact the lives of Uber's users across the globe.
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in backend software engineering
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Java)
- Solid understanding of backend systems, APIs, and distributed systems design
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
- Experience working with product and design teams
- Experience analyzing a feature in production using analytics and experiments
- Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing, implementing, and deploying production-quality systems
- Experience building out integrations with open source and vendor products
- Comfortable working within the coding conventions of a large engineering organization and working in a large and sophisticated code base with many contributors
