About the Role

Uber is looking for top-notch engineers looking to unleash the next wave of growth at Uber by multiplying operational excellence. We are looking for a motivated and talented software engineer to join our User workflow team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining our distributed and scalable alerting system. Working on the core components that monitor, generate and manage alerts for diverse services and infrastructure, helping to build a reliable and efficient platform that empowers internal customers to proactively address incidents.

What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Work closely with senior engineers to innovate, architect, develop, and scale Uber's Observability Tech stack especially around building tools to reduce the time to detect outages
  2. Develop and implement new features on distributed alerting systems, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance.
  3. Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and continuously improving code quality.
  4. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues within the alerting platform, ensuring high availability.
  5. Learn and apply best practices in distributed systems design, data processing, and observability.
  6. Support various engineering teams by helping them integrate with and effectively utilize the alerting platform.

---- Basic Qualifications ----
  1. 3+ years of industry backend experience
  2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  3. Solid understanding of fundamental computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
  4. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java for backend).

---- Preferred Qualifications ----
  1. Systematic problem-solving approach and knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
  2. A good understanding of operating and scaling large-scale distributed systems in practice, including application security, monitoring, and managing incidents.
  3. Data pipeline experience is a plus
  4. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across offices.
  5. Eagerness to learn new technologies and grow as an engineer.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year.
